G'day all, just been thinking and doing a bit of research into getting an FG ICC to work in a BA:

- BEM is apparently identical/interchangeable between BA/BF and FG.
- Heater box controller module is interchangeable.
- FG/BA/BF all run smartshield for their security.
- ICC on BA/BF/FG seem to hook to BEM via a CAN +/-, the rest is all wiring to speakers/bluetooth accessories/pwr/ground.

Can anyone tell me why it will/won't work? I know the FG has 2 more networks, MS-CAN and HS-CAN, but these systems don't seem to interact with the audio and climate control system which is all the ICC really is..

What's the benefit of doing the conversion?

Ever been in an FG with premium sound before? The ICC has native iPod integration, larger color screen, MP3 CD support, graphic equalizer and a couple of nice fancy effects (spinning ford logo on startup, climate control 'guy' walks across screen and sits down). I found everything else (styling, comfort) about the FG mediocre and not much of a step up from BA, and I find the BA ICC the only thing I dislike about my BA  .

Not a bad setup there.

the fg icc runs alot of other car features not available in the ba. things like setting drive away locking, and lights staying on till lockinng your car and stuff. dont know how these things would go on transfer to a ba, and wether they can be seperated off so as just to run the icc? also isnt the icc wired to the fg cluster? theres alot of info on the cluster. also they are a different shape and size. in theory i guess its possible, if you can isolate only the stereo part of the icc to connect to the ba, and let the other stuff run as ba factory spec. have you tried unpluging your icc and plugging in an fg one yet to see what happens?

I would imagine that these time-delay, etc. options would be controlled by the BEM itself and upgrading the BEM to FG spec which is electrically compatible (supposedly), but with a newer software on it may add these features to a BA. I havn't yet tried, as I'm still trying to justify forking out over a grand for an FG premo ICC. Maybe I should try a base-model FG unit first.

Every single way  ?

To each their own, but a few things I think have gone backwards since BA:

- rock-hard lunchbox-quality dash material on FG vs padded dash material on BA
- FG front headrest protrude forward too much, BA is just right
- speakers in rear doors (FG) don't sound as good as parcel shelf ones (BA)
- droopy looking rear-taillights (FG)
- tapered front headlights on XT/G6 look something like the current corolla/camry lights.
- low beam = inner globes (FG) giving cross-eyed look. BA low beam = outer globes, just right.
- doors on FG feel hollow and very Japanese, BA doors have solid feel to them

Just over 4 years hey?

Seen my Parrot install into the BF ICC? There is no way you want to integrate and FG ICC now with the quality of the aftermarket headunits being up there...

Cheers,
Tim

Doesn't have to be a premium system to have ipod integration. Mine has it and it's just a standard 09

I just used my ipod integration to set up an ipad and I used that for sound now. If I want a visualizer I use the youtube videos of the songs I like :P
