Fitting AU boot on to EA gear stick??

I have run into a problem, i am installing a AU console and the gear boot doesnt seem to fit over the gear stick as the sleave wont fit down far enough for the gear nob to get screwed on. Has any body got any suggestions on getting around this problem? Would i have to get a AU gear stick(is it just a straight bolt on???). Thanks

The AU has a different shifter handle, its shorter than the EA.

i just fileed out the hole on my boot and then twisted the boot on, not the best way but it works.
