all neons and LED's will work without the resistors. i think the resistors just help prevent overloading. but i have never had any issues with ANY neons or LED's and i have never used a plug. my current "water" neon (looks like water reflections) has been going for over 2 years and never missed a beat..
and yes they do smash easy... they are glass after all... |

Nope. I cut the plug off, hooked them up to 12v and no go. The LEDs do work off 12v, but the neons I got wont work without the resistor from the cig plug. They do absolutely nothing off 12v. |

Well I got another neon yesty and wired it up.
Definitely looks the biz at night, a very good, cheap interior mod. |

yeah neons are good if there done "tastefully". Personally in not a fan of footwell neons that blind the s**t out of you, underbody kits or that neon rope crap. Ive got one blue neon in my boot hooked to the opened/closed swich and its enough for me.

Yeh my next neon(s) will be in the boot when I find a 12/15" sub that I like.
They arent that bright, but the add to the look of the car at night (well to me and the front passenger). I really like them, and for $10 each, I'm happy. |

That looks pretty good.
I think I'll end up with 3 or so in the boot - 1 in the middle like yours, but probably around the original light, and then 1 on either side.... maybe some near the tail lights too - I'm not sure yet. |

this is my 1 water neon hooked up to the factory boot wires so it only operates when the boot is open.
it will be removed soon as i want to install some 12 volt downlights (same as in boats) to show off the new sub's and amps install which is coming very soon. will be an interesting look |

Looks good huggiebear. How much brighter are the downlights than neons?
I was thinking maybe LED sticks instead of neons, they're a fair bit brighter arent they? |

downlights the same as you use in a house (but ill install non blinding globes (25 watt or something)
they are exactly the same as your househols lights but without the transformer as its already 12/13 volts) i dont want cool factor in my boot... i want light factor. i want people to see whats in the boot when open not just a glow. i want to fit them behind the tail lights in fiberglass pods to light up the subs and amps ect. (also will have a flat floor ) |

I thought that was the type of light you were talking about, just didnt know you could run 12v into them.
Certainly sounds like youve got some good plans, definetly post your pics up when they start hapenin! |

yeah you can. they run off 12 volt, but they have transformers to convert the 240 down to 12 for houses
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... &rd=1&rd=1 those are the exact ones ill be using. i have the relay sorted, just hunting down a dimmer switch for it |
