Hey fellas
I have an EF Futura, and have read the doco http://www.fordmods.com/forums/documents.php?doc=24
on installing lights in the footwell.
However, I dont know if I have the Ignition Key Illumination (wherever that is), or if I have to remove my CD player and install from there.
I was planning on putting 2 short LED sticks from Supercheap in the footwells, 1 on each side.
It would be good to do this at the same time I install my wiring kit for my amp because it will all be apart anyways.

Any help on this would be great. 8-)

tap into the roof interior lighting, it runs on the drivers side under the carpet near the door .. can't remember which colour wire - trace it back from the light!

or take it from the gear shift illumination.

Go from the keyhole illumination above the ignition. From memory its a green and yelllow wire and then a black one.

Ahhh yer I get the Ignition Key Illumination thing now - haha yes the Futuras did come with that.

Well to install my wiring kit I have to get in behind the CD player, underneath the centre console (for RCAs) and take up the carpet on one side to run the power cable.

So seeing as I have to take up the carpet anyway, would it be easier to tap into the cable there, or the gear shift illumination (it is a manual btw)? Does the gear shift illumination do what the rest of the interior lights do - dim out? or is it a constant when the parkers are turned on?

Im pretty sure in the wiring harness for the stock tape player there was these illumination and dimming wires? can anyone confirm this? I know there was some leftover wires, 2 or 3 I think. I'm pretty sure I read they were dimming/illumination wires.

Thanks for your help so far :)

I thought the gear shift light only came on when the lights were turned on!! Hence the reason I went for the interior lighting .. that and my pov pack gli didn't have the key illumination!

Thanks for your help so far :)

Make sure your power cables go down drivers side of car NOT passenger side near the ECU as it can cause funny problems  :D

I did it in my Gli, (no ignition key illumination) and i tapped into the black/blue and green/yellow wires that were in that plug. Pretty straight forward

Use the plug behind the radio as the source for the LH footwell, use the ign key illumination for the RH footwell. The ign key illum has it's own 2 pin plug amongst all the other steering column connectors.
White LED's look good if you want to convert all the interior lighting - the EF BEM will dim fine, EL's won't - the LED's stay on very dimly - need to keep a normal globe installed for proper dimming, e.g. the ign key illum.
Just for a bit of trivia . . . .

Brilliant picture fordnuttz, thankyou very muchly :)
Makes it very obvious for first time owners like myself.
I was thinking white LEDs instead of blue, but a stick is hard to come by, and I'm not too confident in wiring up LEDs and resistors underneath my dash just yet.
GTBob, yeh I ran my power cable down that side and the RCAs down the other, except along the centre console then to the side after the ECU, (along the front of the passenfer seat).
I have a few other problems now, but that would be off topic.

coincidently i did this mod 2 days ago. Its relly straight forward. Ive got an xr6 but still used that plug behind the radio as its easy to get to. I did find them in the loom that runs on the drivers side but its not a real nice place to work so the one behind the dash is a better option in my opinion. I made a junction box and ran wire from the center to the LH, RH and Rear console lights. (yes the junction box is a hollowed out ac charger. believe it or not i had one lying about)

One problem with the tech document explaining it.... the rear stop lamp bulb holder IS NOT THE SAME as the ones required. The auto trans bulb holder is the correct one.for all the pre fab'ed holes. I had to modify these rear lamp ones and glue them in. Its not a huge problem as i dont plan to take the footwell lights out but its an inconvienence.

the rear console lamp cover is from ford and costs a mear $8.05

Took less than an hour to do. For an outlay of less that $20 bucks its a good mod to do if your bored. It looks the business at night too.

I can't beleive you actually made a junction box.

And the rear HIGHRISE stop lamp holder is correct.
