Hiyas,
Just got my hands on a newish ford transit with the indicator stalk on the left hand side. I was wondering if this can be converted to have the switches swapped so that its on the right hand side - like a bloody normal car! Damn these imports! Anyone know if the parts are available to do this, or am I stuck with some gay european/american crap. (Don't even know what country this layout originates from)

Probably not, if you swap the stalks the pictures that are on them will face the wrong way. You could try retro fitting a boxcar or EL stalk.

Yeah, problem is that its my work van - so I really can't modify it in any way that I can't quickly reverse when it goes in for a service. I'm not worried about the pics, as long as its not dead obvious.
Any ford spare parts ppl in here? I know you're there somewhere!

there must be a way cos i've sold cortina indictator and wiper stalks to transit owners. i think it's done with a mk1 escort or cortina ignition assembly. then u just have to wire up a headlight switch.

of course....... i drive both frequently - its not something you can "get used to" when you need to quickly duck in and out of city traffic. May as well swap the gas and brake pedals while they're at it.
Are the cortina stalks almost the same as the 2003 transit ones? As long as it will physically fit inside the column shroud, making it sit there will be a breeze.

Trying to modify it as little as possible, but definately thought about it - the stalks would point too low then.
Thinking of just gutting a broken wiper switch and mechanically linking the left and right stalks. It needs to be quickly interchangeable with the original layout for when it goes in for services.

I used to work at a ford dealership and our courtesy bus was a brand new transit turbo diesel.. you get used to it after a while. Occasionally i'd hop in my falcon and flick the wipers on to go around a corner lol.

LOL, yeah I've a Transit too and have the same fun when I get in the EB. Forget the fiddle, you got more to worry about when driving a Transit. |
