The dashboard will fit just like your current one.

But of course the wiring and stuff will be different, also is the Ghia interior gear from a series 1 or 2/3?

Did you get wiring looms and computers with it too?

The door trims will be pretty easy, but you'll have to convert the rear door to power windows because the Ghia door cards don't have a winder hole in them.

Good luck with it.

you have to replace the heaterbox as well as a dash... and make sure you using the dash same series AU, then you need to program the keys to the new bem, have a look at my build thread for more info

I never realized that they had falcons in south africa.
by the way you may have power windows depending if it was a popvpack one or not, and I'm not to sure on the traction control.
it's looks like your gonna have bigger issue as I believe that's s2/3 judging by the lcds, and your xr's s1.

I think he just used the Ghia photo as an example of what he's talking about.

I'm not 100% positive an series 1, but series 2 and 3 have front power windows standard, even the Forte/XR.

Traction control was only on the high series really, I'm not sure it was even an option on lower models..

Hi There, thanx for the reponse. Yes we got Falcons in SA. The first ones was the EL from 1996. In 1999 the AU was introduced but did not do to well. Only about 500 xr`s was sold during 1999-2000. After 2000 no more xr`s were imported.

My XR is a AU 1, with electric windows at thew front and back. I think the Ghia interior is also from an AU1. How do i program the keys to the new bem??? What is a bem?

My XR dont have traction control. I just used the picure to show. The interior that I got doesnt have all the buttons. This dash do have the traction control. I will have to talk to the scrapyard about the computer boxes and other stuff. Will let you know soon. Thanx for the advice. I have attached pic of the replacement dash. Juan

ah now I get yah, well yeah the dash in the below photo's s1.
yeah s1 xr had front speed glass but rears weren't standard.

yeah I know but it's a matter of whether he wanted it to have all the working buttons didn't realize some ghias came with out traction, I thought it was standard, anyway good luck with it mate.

I thought traction control was standard too..

I also wasn't aware there was an option for power rear windows on XR's.

The conversion should be really easy to do sinse you'll have access to all the parts required.

Make sure you get the BEM and as much of the wiring loom as possible, it'll make it easier.

Also, does the Ghia have Smartshield or Smartlock?

Smartshield have a bigger and more square black base on the key, Smartlock have a smaller and more round base. Late AUI's had Smartshield..

If the Ghia does have Smartshield it'll mean swapping more parts over.

Does your XR or the Ghia have Smartshield? If you're a bit unsure you can post pictures of the key or remote. Or the key barrel.

Hi, well I collected the stuff and found that the car is a 1999 Falcon and not the Ghia as I said before. I got most of the wiring looms and plugs. I made sure that we can just "plug in" the replacement dash. I work in the Esstern Cape Province of SA and my home is in Cape Town in the Western Cape. I am going home the end of this month and will them start with the transplant. I have some pics of the heater box and a blue thing on the heater box. Can you tell me what it is? Also what is a BEM? Also attached is a picture of the xr`s keys. I did not get the new keys. It just the key with the emobiliser and alarm. Its not part of the key. I dont have the computer box.

Is this heaterbox the same as my XR? There is no traction control.

Not really, your XR just manual climate control, not the automatic climate.

The blue box is the vacuum pack.

The BEM is the Body Electronics control Module. It's a separate unit from the ECU, it controls everything that isn't engine/gearbox related, or ABS and airbags. And I think the AU still has another computer for cruise control.

I don't think you uploaded a picture of the keys? I can't recall when Smartshield was introduced, but both of the cars are more than likely Smartlock.

That looks like a smartshield key. Does the Fairmont have the same shaped key?

If it's a bit smaller then it would be smartlock.

If you don't have access to the Fairmonts key, remote or key barrel then you can just post up the date it was made.

Hi there members, I need your help. I somehow lost the bezel that fits to my new dash. I tried to order it from Ford SA but thye are unfortunately not importing it anymore. Can you please assit me in sourcing the bezel for me. I am attaching a pic of the dash with the bezel. Its the one above the radio. The dash is the only thing that is still outstanding in the modification. I resprayed the car to its origional chilli red, fixed the suspension, bought new 17" wheels with 245/45/17 tyres, replaced the seats and door panels. I need the bezel. Please assist. Thanx Juan

Hi AU Lovers
Its been a while but the modifications are getting there. I had to go back to the wrecker in Joburg and to look for the dash bezel myself. The people at the wreckers could not find it. Ford South Africa are not importing it anymore. So it thought let me go Joburg myself and look for it. Well I wnt there and EUREKA I found it. I am planning to fit the dash over the Easter weekend. As soon as everything if done I will post photos to show. Thanx for all the help. Juan
