The fuel guage in the fairmont has been playing up of late...
last friday i filled it up with 45L and it was only registering 1/2 a tank...and yesturday and today it has been moving up and down between 1/4 and 1/2 tank of fuel! whats wrong with it! also...how much would a new thermostat cost?

it could be the fuel sender... or it could be the guage... try replacing both and see what happens

genuine ford thermostat and gasket/o'ring i could get you for about 20 bucks

as for the fuel guage? i would guess the sender first

Well try getting the dash cluster into diagnostic mode first for a little deductive reasoning and observe the digital fuel reading to see if it is moving up or down erratically.

How did you reset your odometer? I thought that couldn't be done on the EFs and EL's - nice conversion of gauges, mate!!

Yep - had a similar case happen to me in my NA Fairlane -replaced the fuel sender in the tank, also had the injectors cleaned as welled - was fine after that. My NL fuel gauge is pretty spot on - when mine drops to half a tank, I have half a tank left.

The odo wasn't reset, it's a new cluster. :wink:

i'd say its the fuel sender, pull it out and clean it up, or jsut replace it, depending on how much they are.. :s

I think a fuel level versus mortgage would be more appropriate.

seton005 if you watch your sig a couple times it gets sicking. its good but for some reason i feel like i am gonna chuck.

the sender is the most likely problem.
if the cluster happens to be crook mitch, rip it out and give it to me, i'll get it fixed for ya.

could even be driving style? drive it hard and your gauge will drop then ease it up and drive steady and your fuel gauge will rise.
