i have just tried to install my gear knob and shifterboot for my ef which i have converted to a manual. now this is the problem..... they dont f**k fit. the guy from ford spares said these are the ones that are for my car but the knobs thread is too big and the boots hole doesnt fit onto the gearstick top. can anyone tell me if parts EH7213A and EF7277A1A are the right parts?

This EF/EL/AU momo 5 speed shifter that I have is AU2 7K327 A if that helps at all.
And I've still got one available if anybody is interested. |

either they have given you the wrong parts or this might be a long shot but you may have a commodore shift as they also have a t5 gearbox and the shifts are slightly different! but still fit.. |

would not be a commodore box as the input shaft is a different length, I replaced my shifter boot and knob recently, I got the EF black knob and EL GT boot, from memory, the boot was a squeeze to get on, the knob, well it pretty much cust the thread into it as it goes, so from new there is not actually a thread in the knob itself.
the EF and EL boots are interchangable. the shape of the lower part of the boot, if its fits in the hole where your auto shifter came from then it is definatly the right one, if not then wrong one. with the knob, you just need to convince it that it is going on. hope that helps somewhat.. Dave

Dave it doesnt have a thread but its just too big to fit on it it sucks

if you have a short shift stick it just might not be catching the threads??i just got a short shift stick from EF XR6 and had this problem with el gt boot and momo knob, but its easily fixed

if its the short shifter, the plastic end piece of the boot doesnt let the knob go on far enough,so you turn the boot inside out and cut 10mm off the plastic piece which allows the knob to go on further and far enough to start on the thread, does the knob screw on to the stick without the boot,or not at all?

no it doesnt at all which makes me think it might b good to wrap some tape on the thread to fill it out a little
