Hi Guys
My girlfriend put her ring on top of the dash and it slid into the air vent just in front of the windscreen. I cannot even begin to think about how I can get it out. The vent is about 1cm wide and the windshield is on about a 45 degree angle so I don't think ill be able to fish it out. Without having to pull out my entire dashboard / dismantle the air conditioning system is there any way to get it out? or is it doomed? Thanks |

You said it... If you can't fish it out then you don't have a lot of option...
You either pull the dash out and then the dismantle the heaterbox to get it... Or pull the windscreen out and hope you can fish it out then (no good if you've driven the car and it's slid across or down the vent) and have the windscreen put back in... Sounds like an almighty pain in the a**... On the E series the top dash panel removed to get some access... But I think they went away from this in the AU... With them there was maybe only a bolt or something in the top of the dash and everything else was all one piece... Fiddly job in a B series too... Drivers seat out to get the handbrake off the console... To get the console out from under the dash... To get the dash out of the car... Cheers, Tim

Thanks for the response... it was exactly what I anticipated
Do you think it could cause any damage left in there? a $150 ring vs $$$$ in servicing a car that is getting pretty long in the tooth? |

Doubtful...
As long as it doesn't cause an annoying rattle it wont bother anything... On the plus side, if and when your mixer shaft breaks and you pull the dash out to replace it... Or the HIM dies and you pull the dash out to replace it (both common problems) then you can retrieve it then... Cheers, Tim
