I am attemping to paint the dash parts in my LTD in a high gloss black style finish.

Every thing has been sanded back and the paint is on. Looks awasme when it is wet but after about 20 mins of drying time it goes all dull. I am using car exterior touch-up acrylic rattle can paint.

Will a clear coat over the top restore its gloss?

Im not sure why you want it glossy as in the sun it will annoy the piss out of you, also satin hides alot of mistakes. It may have lost its gloss if it was painted when cold or damp.

its not by tasmanian standards cold or damp today. i don't think gloss black will be to bad, we don't get much sun down here anyway

I think gloss black will look classy 8-)

you should always put clear coat straight after the last coat of colour and reasonably heavy.
It shouldn't run, but it gives the clear extra bite.
