Well, my EL XR6 is on the train to WA, scheduled to arrive next FRI ...hoohaaar!

Went to Pro Performance in Canning Vale WA today to order a GMM Manual 'Ripshifter' for when she arrives.

I'm sure you guys know what they are, but they replace the stock 5-spd shifter, and reduce the throw by approx. 40%, whilst offering a spring-assisted straight gate feature for the 2nd-3rd shift. So no more missed 3rd gear ...EVER.

Just so happens they had a stock shifter on an EF in the yard, and a ripshifter on an SS ute, ...huge difference in throw & feel between the two!

Costs $499 plus $140 for fitting.

Anyone had any experience with these Ripshifters?

There are a few different brands out there (Herrod Sure-shift $560, B&M shortshifter $300 etc.), they all shorten the shift throw, ...the the GMM Ripshift $499 is the only one that has the 2nd-3rd straight-gate feature.

i.e. NEVER miss 3rd again!

Like I said, I tried a Ripshift today ...2nd to 3rd ...straight in, no sideways travel at all!

so is the spring that pushes it sideways a strong spring? is it hard to get it back to 2nd or 1st?

Nah, not at all ...it's very subtle.

The spring assist only seems to work changing up from 2nd-3rd, not down!

Here's a link: http://www.gmmotorsport.com/ripshiftmanual.htm

This is for the Holden shifter, but they make 'em for the Ford T5, too.

Yep, they do sell them for DIY install, with instructions.

Piece of piss if you've got the box out!
