Hi, Has anybody fitted cruise control switches on to an aftermarket steering wheel. Not necessserely genuine switches.

Should be simple as. They use differing resistances to let the BEM know which switch has been pressed. This is because there is only one ring for the horn! Ingenious way of doing it. To solve, connect the resitors to the back of the switches, and go straight onto the other wires

it goes to the cruise module , not the BEM. but yeah each button presents a different resistance.

Yes its not the electrical side thats the problem and the cruise steering wheel has three rings 1 horn,2 earth 3cruise control.
I was more after if anyone had an idea of what switches could be used.
EF/EL/AU switches can be used but quite hard to come by as new ones are $180, so they go quickly at the wreckers.

you could put them on the fuse box cover as well out of the way but still accessible

If you are fitting the cruise switches to an EA then I think you will have to use the EA-ED switches. I wouldn't think that the EF-EL ones will work at all. They have different functions and the entire cruise system on the later cars is different. EA-ED is a vac system, EF-EL is electrical servo.

As far as how you would mount the switches, it would depend on what style of wheel you were looking to use!

I am using a aftermarket wheel and the EF/EL switches should fit only they are expensive new and hard to find second hand.

The switches only use different resistor values to control the cruise so a small job to convert them. I doesn't matter how the mechanics under the bonnet work its only the resistances from the switches to the controller that matter.

i don't think that wheel will be any good to him. His EA has full EF interior and electrics (if its the car i am thinking of)
