105 Series LandCruisers are the worst for having the all time brightest low beams on a single car. I find myself flashing my high beam at them at night a lot because i think theirs is on.

EL GLi's are plastic (polycarbonate) Same comments as above.

The EF/EL XR twin light kit are glass. The lamps units are imported from o/s - then assembled here...

Same s**t though - they are NOT designed for big globes. (the coating on the reflector will probably fail)

Car makers want these things built to bottom dollar - as long as they live for 10years, that's all the manufacturers are prepared to pay for unfortunately...

Have a look at the chinese made s**t they put on V series commodores, every third VX/VY etc. I see has unroadworthy head-lights because the cheap s**t silicone coating is yellowing / flaking, or the lens has stress cracks in the H4 area from the heat... (The top quality silicone coating costs $12,000 for a 200lt drum - christ knows what they are using in china)

I got a 2000 AU Series II.

I do a lot of driving at night and many over 5 hours Highway in remote locations and mate some of the area is pitch black and no street lights and yes I want to see whats ahead and at the side and not tunnel vision.

What globe and wattage can I use without causing damage to the headlight casing or lens. lens is starting to show signs of yellowing.

Any advice on this would be welcome

Stay away from H4 HIDs as they are not legal and could cause an accident. Keep your low beams legal just buy a good set of Hella plus 50s or equivalent and adjust your lights correctly. I do recommend HIDs in your inner High beam lights just get some 5000K 55w and should have plenty of light.
I run Cibie super oscar driving lights (2 spread beam) with a 70w 5000K HID kit on my patrol awesome light out put just like having 300m of daylight in front of you car. that stretches right out to the sides of the road. I also do more that 20K kms of night driving per year.

To all the people who run HIDs in low beams that where never designed for HIDs and are not leagal ever thought of what you will say when your lights caused an accident?

I got some of those blue tinted globes from Autobahn, they both blew out in a few months, the extra luminesence was good while it lasted.
I even had the lights adjust up a little bit more so i could see further down the road.
worked a treat, didnt have to use the highbeam the whole time.
always drive with my lights on during the day too.

Narva BLUE powers would be the best way to go. Had plus 50s in the EL and now running the blue powers in the BA and they are so much better.

Hmmm, Well I dont know if they will make much difference in mine. My headlights are sort of starting to fade as in yellowish. I have tried the gimmicks of rubbing back and poliish etc, they dont appear to work that well. They fade again within a short time.

Maybe I should by new headlights as well.

I use 60/55w Phillips Plus 80 ultra white or something like that...I got them on eBay from Germany. In the high beam I have 55w HID which are brilliant - much higher light output, low heat and same wattage as original globes. Plus you use them when no one is around...unlike some who fit HIDs in low beam, which dazzles oncoming drivers and draws a lot of attention from the cops.
