pass!
But while you have the entire box out, might be worthwile replacing the ac core as well, since you're going to need regassing anyway. Leaves like to accumulate against the core, and if its in as bad a condition as the heater core, it might save you some time later on. Mine cost around $100 from memory, the front filter/dryer was a bit extra. I have pics if you want to know what to expect.

Sent. Only 3 pics, but you can see how much the ac system can degrade in 9 years (pics taken in 2002)
Its my old EB ex cab, so it probably got more use, and less maintenance than a private car. Just make sure you seal up the two halves of the box properly, or it will most likely drip on the passengers feet afterwards Might be a good idea to also check and, if necessary, reinforce the blend flap at this time. snap0964 succesfully did it with some stiff wire, and I did the same on my EB a while ago. I recently fixed the flap in my EF, but that was without taking the box out. The diagrams are elsewhere on this site.

Just to clarify - what's mean't here is the recirc air flap. There aree some pics on page 2 of http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=19721 you might find useful.

Good ingenuity is always remembered
ah yes. slip of the tounge. Meant recirc flap, not blend flap - entirely different, but probably equally hard to replace

Thanks fella.
I can say a snapped blend door flap does take a fair amount of effort to fix.
