Hey mate it will be a broken mixer shaft. Very common problem with the Ba's. Gearbox change over is just a coincidence.

Why did gearbox (auto?) s**t itself? Some of these cars had an issue with the radiator failing. They have an OIL cooler on the side of water radiator for the auto tranny fluid. Sometimes this would fail somehow and the pressurised hot water from your engine could push itself into the auto transmission lines.
This would kill your gearbox. And result in need for your car to go through a recall type procedure as funded by Ford. Although, I could have this all wrong. I am still struggling to work out how an E-Series works really. |

That would be sooo unlucky ^^^ with my gear box (yeah auto sorry ) it had 3.9 Hundred thousand Ks on it. so by the end of it . the reverse gear s**t it self. and wouldn't reverse unless im on like 50000 Revs. and it would barely move, a few days later i couldn't drive because it was stuck on gear 3 and wouldn't let me use my sports shift. it was also leaking from the selector switch and a pretty bad leak from the gasket. it also didn't down shift at all since the day i got it. all in all it was a pretty thrashed gear box |
