I've started my interior mods by starting to paint my dash and console.. by brother has done it in his EB and it looks mint, im starting it in my but the goddam paint wont stick!!! Anyone know of any certain prep washes or anything i can use? i've tried rubbing it back with emri paper or using turps or thinners and i've tried with and without primer, the paint just wont stick well!!! Any ideas?

if someone has ever used armeral you will find the paint will not stick due to the silicon base in the armeral. try using prepsole aka wax and greese remover. befor painting

Depends what paint your are usng aswell.
But yes products used on the dash to condition it can still be there. there are quite a few products out there to remove this.

Thanks guys.. ill give that a shot. and also, the door trims on an ED Fairmont, i just picked up a set of Ghia ones with the woodgrain trim in them, im trying to switch them over and can get all the screws out and the door handle but cant manage to get the rubber strip off where the window goes down, is there any trick to this?

put your hand up between the trim and the door and give it a hit upwards at the top of the trim.

You'll find the rubber strip is attached to the top of the doortrim, so when you do what millard said, the rubber strip will come out with the doortrim

also, the first coat of anything on your dash plastics should be an etch primer.
Thats what I've aways done, prepsol to clean it, then etch primer and then your top coats. |
