hey all
well... went to change the fuel pump & filter just now... but encountered a rather interesting issue - my wheel well was 3" deep in water  the boot carpet underneath was also wet, although the boot itself wasn't damp. now - this isn't good (just to state the obvious  )
there were no obvious holes i could see where the water was coming in - but i'd assume it would be most likely coming in from the top of the boot somehow, around the rubber seals. initial thoughts are to run a hose around the area & see if i can locate the leak, and seal the area up with silicone - anyone else got any bright ideas - it really worries me having that much water in the boot!

mine had some water in it so i got rid of it and it hasent come back. its got me stumped

Leaking seals on the tail lights?

i took the exterior "c" panels off and found out the rear windscreen had a hole in the seal, so we siliconed that up and the car hasnt leaked since. i also removed the tail lights and clean them up (the amount of dirt and crap that they catch is amazing).

Probably seals leaking down inside and into the boot. Try under the parcel shelf for water, or around the boot edges.

i had water in the boot agea ago and i think i found the problem with mine.
there are 2 rubber stoppers on the boot lid which rest on an area just above the tail light, any way these little suckers have like a thread cut into them, you can screw em in or out, mine where screwed out a bit they causing the boot seal not to seal up properly against the boot lid.

I had a similar problem with water getting inside the EF boot but not quite 3" worth
Turns out the seal running around the boot opening (near the rear lights and boot lower) wasn't making good contact with the lid. As the lid top was lined up with the rear fenders, i used a spaner to grad the metal lip that the seal pushes onto and bent it up a smidgon. Must have dropped or rested something on the seal a while back, bending it down enough to break the seal and let wind pressure push in the water

Mine used to leak into the EL from the front corners (the bottom of the rear window) where water can well up there when parked downhill and it rains. Then ran into boot and into wheel well. Condensation was also a big problem when water was in there.
To fix it, i jumped in the boot with a torch and got a mate to spray it with a hose. Located where it would drip (had to stay in the boot for a while, it can be a pretty slow leak) and covered the area with silicone. Hasnt leaked since. Good luck!

spraying ya car with a hose, esp a high pressure one, will let water through.
Water will get in throught the rear seals and also sometimes where the rear window comes down to the boot, Just poke the lil rubber thing out in the wheel well and drain it every now n then

think i've discovered the problem!
my car is parked usually facing downhill... so when it rains, the water runs off the boot & rear window, into the tracks designed to trace it down the back & drain away - however because its on the down-facing angle, it has no-where to go, so eventually overflows both over the outside, and inside over the rubbers & into the boot, and therefore into the wheel-well! so - does this theory hold water?
