Im just wondering what the deal is with the ef/el falcons and which models received the high series clusters?
I know fairlanes and fairmonts got them, but why do i see some futura's and gli's have them installed aswell? has this been added by the owner or was it fitted from factory on some gli's and futuras? thanks |

GLi / Futura Come with LOW Series: (4 gauges)
Fairmont / Fairmont Ghia / XR / Police spec Come with MID Series: (6 gauges) Fairlane / LTD Come with High Series. (6 gauges with Larger needles and LCD) Most people change to the mid series for looks, oil gauge and volts. Some GLi / Futura's are Police cars. (opt20) is stamped on the compliance plate. All clusters can be installed with Small mods. http://www.fordmods.com/forums/Changing ... s-d14.html Fairmont to GLi / Futura requires an internal resistor added and an Oil sender installed. A Police cluster is a straight swap to GLi / Futura with the oil sender as well. A High Series can also be installed to a Low series with a few external resistors to trick the door sensors fuel flap etc. They're also reverse compatible too by removing components.

It sounds to me the backing plate is fouling the needles.
Some people change the fascia background, remove the needles with a fork, and when re-applying, press too hard. The tacho description suits that perfectly. The speedo also, but it could possibly be an electrical fault too. Try swapping the cluster with another, if no success obviolsly you'll need to search for an electrical fault. PM if you require a cluster.
