So as the story goes we are fitting a high series cluster to the Futura. The question is where is the resistor placement on the high series cluster? The doco lets us know where the placement is for low/mid series, but cant figure out the placement of the resistor on the high series.
Any help well do..... Especially pics.....

Any help well do..... Especially pics..... Meter your old cluster where the old resistor was and trace the tracks back. From memory there are no pads to solder on the high series cluster, so you need to scrape back the solder mask on the track and solder to that. I think one side comes from the LCD lamp and the other comes from the dimming pin on the cluster connector. Cheers TW.

ok - lol its kinda working now! discovered a little flaw last nite - the cluster dims fine @ nite, however a few little problems w/ the trip computer the trip doesn't dim when the lights are turned on - you can't see it - however when the indicators are on, it flashes with them! it lights up when the indicators flash! lol i'm thinking something is slightly amiss here!

Is it an EF or an EL trip computer? I found that with the EL trip in the EF that would happen. It would light up dependant on the load. I put in a EF trip and it was all good.... Oh well back to the drawing board....

EF trip AFAIK... all the colours match up for it to be an EF one

You could always install a Fairmont BEM and light switch and get the dimming working properly

I had to put a resistor in the TC get the backlight to work with the lights on. The resistor position is from the dimmer pin on the connector to the base of the transistor that drives the light. You may need to experiment with the resistor value as the intensity of the lamp when dimmed is dependant a bit on the lamp power I have the High BEM ready to go in, one day I will get around to it) Cheers TW.

I meant what I said the other way around. I had problems with the EF trip, so I gutted my EL one and put the circutry into the EF shell.
Sorry for the mis-info.

ok - just discovered something weird about the trip computer...
the T/C lights up when indicating both ways, and when applying the brakes! lol very weird! perhaps a wiring issue?

DONT NEED it on high series clusters, just on mid and low

It just depends on how much load you are putting on the system. There is definatly a difference between the EF and the EL trip comps. As twason said, it just needs a resistor added. Wiring should be fine, as that pin wasnt touched for the cluster conversion.
