Guide on how to remove the FG ICC and dismantle it
I had a few of the guys with FGs ask me how to pull their ICCs apart so they can play around with them. So I figured I'd just make a short guide on how to for anyone that is looking to do it. the-garage-f53/2dads-xr6-fg-build-t118388.html Video on how to remove the ICC now on youtube I made a video guide on how to do this, so that it was a bit easier for people to see exactly how to do this. This new one is much better and will hopefully be good enough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3NlP7Ho1mg Tools you'll need are Phillips head screwdriver Small flat head screwdriver Socket wrench or socket screw driver with 6mm socket The first time you do this it takes about 30 minutes but after doing it a couple times you can easily get it down to 10. So here we go. Step 1: Disconnect the battery Step 2: Use the small flat head screw driver to lift the panel on top of the unit off. This thing is held on by some pretty big clips so don't be scared when it starts making some odd noises. Attachment: You'll see what I mean by big clips in the next picture. Step 3: You'll see two metal brackets, each has a screw in it securing the unit to the dash. Undo these screws. Attachment: You'll notice that the screws are not shown in this picture, only the holes where they belong. It seems last time I took the unit out I decided I didn't need them.... Step 4: Unplug these grey cables from the top of the unit. Give them a little wiggle to get them loose if you have to. Attachment: Step 5: Grab the tissue box holder and pull it out. It's held in by a big clip on each side so it may need a bit of encouragement. Remove the 4 hex head screws you can now see holding the unit in. Unplug the small grey wire from the bottom of the unit Attachment: Step 6: Get one hand on top of the unit and one hand underneath and gently pull it out of the dash. Attachment: Step 7: Now that you've got the unit out of the dash you'll see 4 screws on each side holding the big brackets on to it. Undo these screws. Attachment: Step 8: Next take out the 5 screws down each side of the unit. These screws hold the screen, air vents and cd player in. I find the best order to undo them in is from top to bottom, that way nothing falls out when you don't want it to. Attachment: There is also a screw under the air vents that holds them in. Don't forget to undo this one as well. Attachment: Step 9: When you get the air vents out unplug this little cable. Attachment: Your bench should now look something like this. Step 10:
Take a look at the silicon boards you've got exposed now. There are A LOT of screws holding these three little guys in.All the screws are numbered. When you undo the screws undo them from the highest number to the lowest. Attachment: Step 11: Removing the boards is simple, however note there are two sets of clips holding them in, they WILL NOT come up without undoing these clips first. Probably the easiest way to break your ICC is to try and lift these boards up without undoing the clips. Attachment: Attachment: Step 12: Not really a step, but once you have the silicon boards out most of the buttons will easily fall out. Some are held in with small clips etc, but I thought it would be insulting to assume people don't know how to undo some small clips Attachment: And there it is. The facade out of the car. Ready for a new vinyl wrap to be added for some extra pretty in your interior Attachment: Hopefully your end result will look something like this, or better. Attachment:

Thanks heaps for taking the time to do this man. Made taking apart the ICC so much easier with something to reference. Did mine in vinyl wrap like yours, looks sweet.

I'm going to make a video version of these instructions
Started recording today, so the video should be done and up on youtube tomorrow. Should I make a separate thread for it, or add it in to the start of this one? |
