The tech doc ( documents.php?d=25 ) doesn't say how to.

Do I have to unsolder the LCD off the board in order to change the colour filter for the LCD screen on an EF/L climate control module?

Ive had a look at it myself and the only way I could devise to do it was to unsolder the screen, however some guy on here reckons you dont have to but I never opened it up again to take a look. Im keen to know if theres another way though!

yeah I don't believe It'll be possible due to the way it's setup without desoldering, that's what I ended up doing.

It has to be unsoldered to get the initial filter out. If you replace the filter with paper or plastic, and further down the track wish to change the colour of the filter, it will be easier to remove the filter that you have fitted.

Thank god the previous owner took care of the CC LCD on mine 8-)

I've been looking at it thinking about cutting the plastic off at one side, but that's dodgey. I guess I'll have to go and buy a solder sucker tomorrow and remove the LCD.

I did this to a spare one not so long ago mate. The only way to do it is to de solder it.

Whats the easiest way to desolder it without damaging the board? I havnt had much experience, will a regular soldering iron do the trick?

You need de solder tape. You place the tape over the solder you want to remove and push the soldering iron on top of that. the solder then draws into the de solder tape. Its really quite easy.

This will work better if you flux the braid - be careful, don't leave it on too long, repeated attempts may lift tracks.
Being Americanised as we are, you'll most likely see the braid advertised as "Sodderwick"(Solderwick).
If you don't have a vacuum removal tool, probably better to get a TV repair shop to remove it for you.

I desoldered mine, to make it blue light my other LCDs...but I just couldn't get it to look good. It's orange no matter what....so I even removed the orange coloured backing from the LCD (it peeled off easily)....but then it just doesn't work because the lights in the back just shine through everywhre, not just the segments.

if anyone has successfully managed to get the CC LCD blue, I'd love to know what method they used, a in material used etc...

I havn't done my CC LCD yet. However, after just doing my trip computer and instrument cluster. I used PostIt paper in blue, found it was showing up a greenish blue, so I changed the globes from behind the LCDs to blue LEDs and now I have nice bright blue LCDs (I sanded the top of the LEDs to prevent the spot light effect).
