Hey all, I'm looking at installing black vinyl material into parts of my dash and door cards. Just wondering if anybody has any tips like using heat to mould it around the curves and what to use to stick it to it.

i had a few t bar surrounds that had holes from mobile phone holders so i decided to wrap them in vinyl. get good quality 3m di-noc vinyl or else it might lift when the car gets hot. heres my attempt at carbon fiber.
 its really easy to use, just do a bit at a time, don't pull off a hole sheet and stick it on or else you will get air bubbles. i used a small fan heater but you can use a hair drier. when it heats up it gets real soft and just melts over any shape. next im gonna try to do the radio surround and ash tray. |

i'm doing the same with my au2 use a heat gun/hair dryer but not to much heat and i'm useing some 3m Super 77™ Multipurpose spray Adhesive and its very good for vinyl if you cant get it get a clue that will let the vinyl stretch and contract with the heat from inside the cabin or it will start to let go

i got it off ebay do a search for 3m di-noc it comes in different sized sheets.

G'day,
Wrapping your plastics etc. should be relatively easy, vinyl is great to use because it stretches nicely. A heat gun would be best for those tricky corners/curves, just remember to heat it gradually, and don't stretch it too much. In regards to the glue,(if you're not using self-adhesive) any automotive contact adhesive would suffice. Just go to your local motor trimmer with a small container, shouldn't cost you more than 10 bucks, and can be applied with a brush or spray gun. Hope that was useful. Greggy B |

I'm looking into putting chrome vinyl over my exterior door handles,

Yeh no problem rew93n, i did my woodgrain console with high quality vinyl from the states you can get it by the foot, i got around 3.5 feet for around $25 delivered and it has about more than 7 years life on the exterior of the car and more of course for interior.The store can also be found on ebay or google "Metro restyling" they are quite good with a variety of vinyls from carbon fibre,brushed aluminium,woodgrain,chrome etc.give them a go i was very happy. i will upload some pics of my interior on this thread a bit later, ive already uploaded some on the fairlane and ltd thread if you want to see or wait untill i up load some here. anyway hope it helps and good luck and make sure you get a heat gun you do need it for those nasty curves. lol.

He's layered that in the woodgrain vinyl too, I know that you can get a double DIN walnut surround, that is either aftermarket or OEM. Im not quite sure.

Series 1 and series 2 are different, Series 1 has a full cover which hides the Cig Lighter. Series 2 onwards exposed the lighter.
