Hey,
Has anyone changed their interior carpets? Mines lookin a bit shabby and Im thinking of updating..... Is it an easy job to do yourself? - Do I need to strip everything out first? Also, is it a pricey exercise? I was hoping to get away with a few hundy for the job...

cost: $100-150 depending on type of carpet, underlay, scuff pads, etc
DIY possible, you need to remove seats, console and the plastic panels that run along the inside of the sills, as well as kickpanels

Cool intereceptor....
Would you go to an auto trimmer, or would you tackle it yourself ya reckon? Dunno how much they would charge, and I guess they would have a selection of carpets...

take a look in the parts peddler, there's a couple of companies that offer moulded carpets to suit specific cars, trufit carpets and knox moulded car carpets are 2 that come to mind
i'd DIY..... it's not hard, and definitely not worth the cost of taking it to a trimmer

Depending on how worn your carpets are, the other option could be to get the complete interior steam cleaned, seats and all.
This is something i am considering. Has anyone had their interior steam cleaned, does it get rid of all the normal stains (yeh i already know the comments that will be posted) one gets on the floor and seats ? Cheers |

Yes getting it steam cleaned works very well and once it's done you will be amazed at how clean it can come up.

I picked up a high series carpet (falcon/fairmont carpet is different to fairmont ghia) for $60 in really good nick from Fairmonts Gear. Does take a fair bit of time to take out capert as you have to remove all seats, centre console, bottom atachments of seat belts....just make sure you have a T50 bit to take out seats and seat belt screws, much harder with an allen key.
It's definately a job worth doing by yourself, just fairly time consuming. I know moderators can delete posts but I thought a delete tab comes up next to the quote tab to delete it yourself if you've mede the post - might be wrong on that though!!!! |

How does the high series carpet differ - is it just thicker?
