OK so I just picked up an FPV cluster this morning off ebay for my ED build, but Im not sure if I want this or an XR cluster for it. Other than the cluster faces, what other differences is there? Ive heard the BA clusters can display trip computer info? Would this be able to do it? Id like it to be able to as Im sure once the BA motor/ECU goes in my factory trip wont work anymore :?

Basically Ill be swapping the internals from the cluster into an EL cluster housing I have here so it will fit it in the dash (I have an EL interior/wiring)

As I dont own or have ever owned a BA Im not 100% on how it all works!

Well my BA only shows Trip A, Trip B, Odometer in the right screen and Doors Open/Closed, D 1 2 3 4 in the left.

Trip computer is all in the ICC. The buttons for controlling & reseting is also on the ICC.

I have a Fairmont so I know its not exactly what you're after but I think you'll find its the same setup for the XR's/FPV's etc (minus the 260km/h speedo of course)

i dont think any FPV has the trip comp information in the cluster, because all the FPVs had at least mid series ICCs?
not 100% on that, it'll be based on what ICC the car had anyway.
i know the low spec BAs definately have it in the cluster, the old mans Mk1 XR6T has it.

They may be similar to the EF/EL clusters?

Once you get into diagnostic mode on the EF/EL clusters it has all relevant trip info in there, from what I can remeber, fuel in litres, inst fuel consumpt, avg fuel consumpt...

documents.php?d=12

So if there is a way of getting into the diag mod on the B series cluster then maybe...

But somebody correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think the EF/EL cluster stay in diag mode forever does it? It times out and returns back to normal mode?

Your other option, is find a way to mount the ED trip computer in the EL dash, and the data wire simply picks up off your injector pulse wire... But no doubt BA's have bigger injectors than what the ED trip computer is set for so it wont be 100% accurate but then again, what trip computer ever is?

Cheers,
Tim

Tornado's and Pursuit Utes (and I think some early GT's) had the low series ICC and would therefore have had the trip in the dash cluster, but the utes would only have the two doors for ajar.

But as far as I know, it's just a matter of getting the clusters re flashed anyway isn't it??

Aren't they all the same in the guts, just with different software, fascia and lighting dependent on model/spec???

Ah I see, I forgot about the low series ICC. Makes sense seeing as the ICC screen is smaller and doesn't have the room for the trip computer display!

There's two different hardware models for the cluster.
Loosely, low spec and high spec.

Low spec has the trip computer built in.
High spec doesn't (needs a high series ICC for trip computer functionality), and has variable dimming for illumination (replaces the trip computer buttons on the low spec, with dimmer buttons).

Then there's the various software differences depending on series and model.
- speedo range, 220/260/270 km/h (regular, XR, FPV respectively)
- tacho range, 7k / 8k (regular and FPV)
- fuel gauge calibration (different for sedan / ute / wagon)
- warning light functions, ABS, ESC, TC (dependant on model which ones are enabled or not)

if auMatt or Lukeyson jumps in, they may add something if I've forgotten anything.
