Thanks Waggin,
dunno why you couldn't get the tacho working with the Motec, mitch got it working on his EL Ghia V8, (he's running an MSD unit). Cheers

Credit goes to Dang for this, I just finished off his circuit, and added names, so forth. Note, MAX232A's use 0.1uF caps instead of the 1uF's. Also the LM7805 is just a 5V fixed voltage regulator, which can be substituted with anything else. And the 2N2222 can also be replaced with whatever basic transistor. All of these can be bought at jaycar if anyone was wondering. To top it all off, its late, so any mistakes let me know, I just quickly sketched it up. Good luck. Now, back to it for me Cheers Thanks for the acknowledgement. I'll be keeping an eye on what all you nerds come up with given the one commodity I'm well short on at the moment - time. Kid #4 has arrived since I first posted this thread. He's turning 1 next month. How time flies....... Glad to give you lads a start, now make me and the Fordmods family proud! Dang. |

so what does that circuit allow you to do.

Quote: so what does that circuit allow you to do It's an interface - takes the data line information and converts it to a format readable by the computer (via a COM port). Still need software to interpret it all though...

if you need software talk to justfordima, he would know how to write some up for you.

yeah, Ill work with the interface work out some data, and probably write a little app to present the data a little better.
Cheers

well its been a few weeks now since we have heard anything. I needed a school project so i thought of this one. I am looking for any data and stuff you guys have obtained so that i can continue and present something. I am currently making my carputer and have a 8" LCD coming in the mail next week.
I have PMed some guys here and am looking forward to some very helpful tools, tips, advice, and information. Cheers all and i hope we get this for distrubution in the next few months. BTW i have about 20 x 100m lesson to work on this not to mention all my holidays. Ben

build the above circuit, use the terminal server mentioned, and you're alright. Feed some data into the ECU, and read the DOL from the ECU, or just wire up the dash.
The next thing I was gonna do is feed a DOL to the dash, changing things to see what controls what. Just haven't had time. Cheers

60 pin plug, pin 34, 104 pin plug, pin 43.
Is that what youre asking? Cheers

EL would be 60 pin IIRC.

yes, EL is 60 pin... EF and Aus run 104 pin (coil packs).
Cheers

Sorry to thread dig but i was coming back over this and got idea's.
At school i found some data loggers. They are pretty shiity eLab units. In these kits they have serial communicators. With these serial communicators they have the 4 capactors that the one here does plus one extra. It has the serial port and its got a power connector. So its missing 2 resistors, a transistor and the PVR. But if we pump 5v into it and not 12v then this should get rid of the resistors, PVR and transistor.
