Ok Guys, I have my turbo coming soon and I am wanting to put a small boost gauge somewhere I can see it so that I can make sure that the boost is not going to creep or fall short. I was thinking A-Pillar, right down where the dash and A-Pillar meets (Please dont start flaming me about rice! It wont be rice, and if it is, I will move it!) I have heard conflicting stories in regards to mounting guages on A-pillars. I was just wondering if anyone knew of the specific laws in regards to this. I wouldnt mind reading some from different states as well!

Thanks guys

Wade

That's exactly where ive got mine mounted and have never been hassled about it. That's not to say it's compliant...

But its discreet, doesnt stick up above the dashboard... is easy to see...

Yea, I mean, its not going to impare my vision and I have seen bigger things than that in the same spot and cops have over looked it. Its just when I go to get the turbo complianced and EPA tested, are they gonna say "Nup, Pull it out, Its gonna cause you to run over a rabbit" or "Yea, thats cool"

If your worried about it not being compliant, what about under the ashtray.

I did consider it, but I would prefer it in a line of vision so I can keep an eye on whats going on. I like to know these things just incase!

pretty sure you cant have instruments above the dash line, laws vary state-state so just ring your local authority

I heard that one to but when you look at new cars such as the Pursuit ute and the F6 range, they have guages mounted high than the dash line. And Im sure if it was a small guage, right at the base of the a-pillar, they wont mind but I may have to make some inquires as to it.

Ok well i'm up s**t creek then!
I know you're allowed to put gauges on your bonnet in Victoria. They have to be in a Cup (of course) and you are not allowed to run any fuel/oil/liquid lines into the cabin for gauges, so i would've assumed they'd be alright.

I was wondering when you would notice this thread. I have seen how you have mounted your guages and Im not wanting to put mine that high. I might have to make some calls and do some measuring when I get the guage.

Thats your best bet. Check with someone in your state that actually knows what they're on about.
I only them up that high because the pillar mount i got, has them mounted there. I was going to get some good gauges and mount them in a couple of chrome pods on the bonnet, but couldn't be stuffed, as i reckon thats another reason for the cops to pull me up, and no doubt some bastard would smash or flog them anyways.

my mate used to have his 2" boost guage in his super-6 VT mounted at the base of the A-pillar and the dash.

cop tryed to defect him for it, went to the pits and the guy looked at it, gave it a wobble with his hand to make sure it was secure and said its fine.

pretty sure it cant intrude on line of sight and must be securly mounted
