Hey All, I need help as to why my Blue LED lights arent working. I purchased this cluster kit off EBAY and fitted it yesterday. I pulled out the blue bulb holders and broke the solder holding the old bulbs in and replaced the old with the new LED T5 fittings. I didnt solder the new bulbs in, I just assumed that they made contact to the inside of the contact plates (anyone who has changed these bulbs will know what im on about). I fitted it all back together and no good the LEDs dont work. The bulbs are rated at 12v DC and the EBAY description says it is just a matter of out with the OLD in with the NEW. Can anyone give me some ideas as to why they arent illuminating.
Cheers Bevo Ps. Heres the link to the LEDs i purchased off ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... Y.m238.lVI

Leds are polarity sensitive, Try turing them around 180 degrees. Also If the instructions say to solder, I would do that (just to be sure) assumption is the mother of all f#@kups

LEDs are a one way fitment - try turning them around.
... wait what... Did you have to break out the old globes? |

So none of them work?? it seems unlikely that you would have all of them the wrong way around... when you pull them out, before you turn them around, maybe test them with some wires and a battery to make sure that they are all working..
Cheers David

the icon globes need to be broken out, but the backlight globes for the dials don't.
if you put blue led's behind the icons they become really fu*kn hard to see. i had to spread the legs of the led's i got to make proper contact in the wedge base. maybe you could try that. be sure to test it before you put it all back together!

"broke the solder holding the old bulbs"
sounds like you don't have the original T5 holders there for the gauges, the originals the bulb just slides out easy and the LED just pushes back in. Definately won't work by putting the LED into the solder-type base, it won't contact for love or money. Are any of the othe globes on the back the non-soldered type, just use those bases instead and replace those with the soldered type you can't use. Failing that you can pick up a billion of the orignal type at the wreckers for nothing |

Failing that you can pick up a billion of the orignal type at the wreckers for nothing i don't get it, i desoldered the bulbs out of the holders for the icon lights and my led's work. the holder is exactly the same as standard only they bend the legs around the outside of the holder and solder it in place.

Yeah that would work, but with 99% of T5 holders, the wedge bulbs just fit straight in, no soldering.
I put it down to Ford using cheaper pre-soldered bulbs when they replace them during servicing as brand new AU's etc etc just use the push type where you pop the bulb out and replace. |

See this is what the majority are, no soldered leg, just pushed in

i can see where you guys are coming from, however the ones that were soldered into the socket on mine appeared (and were) just a standard socket with the bulb legs soldered in. it is unknown to me why the manufacturer would bother doing this, i guess they wanted to try and increase sales?

The 6 globes for my EF fairmont cluster were push-into-holder type ones, but, the one for the odometer LCD was soldered....
But, i've seen some ELs that have the soldered bulbs in it for the illumination as well.. Normally if i need to change blown globes in that case i goto a wrecker and rat the good push-in type holders from a cluster there.. that way globes are available in a variety of wattages..

Well i ended up finding out that i had all of the bulbs round the wrong polarity. UNLUCKY i'd say All of my cluster Bulb holders are blue except for the warning lights which are white T5 light fittings. All of the blue bulb holders had the bulb legs soldered in and needed to be broken off to remove. Anyway the final product is unreal, i am sooo stoked. Cheers for the help guys.
