yeah, so i was wondering if anyone can tell me what im doing wrong with the blue dash mod, ive got 7000mcd blue led's, i attatched the correct resistors to em, although i dont know wa rating they are.
i put them into the clock and it worked, i then put the dash together with them in the dash and cigarette lighter, and then none of them worked. so i took the dash apart again, tried everything to get them to work, and now they dont work in the dash at all, i know the bulbs are fine as i am now using them in my computer instead, but the led's dont work at all in the dash, and the other bulbs did. i tried re solderin the connections, making sure the wires didnt touch, making sure the led's were in the right way, that the fuses hadnt gone, that there was still power to the light holders themselves, and still nothing. any ideas?? oh and btw, does anyoneknow where i get wide angle led's from???, the ones i got are like 9 degrees or sumpin and the are very direct on the light/cigaretter lightert...thanks

Bit hard to understand from your frist post but a few questions.
What model are you doing this to? With the led's i made some of them perfectly fine and yes.. they didnt work! The trick is to wiggle them around a bit it can take several attempts but they will work. Take them in and out a few times and eventually they will start working.. its a pain i know. If your doing it to ef/au dash remember blue won't light up the needles. I tried this looks great but you jsut have no idea how fast you are going at night. Also 7000mcd sounds a little over the top I used 5000mcd blue and they where plenty bright. I had to use 2 red 6500mcd for the speedo and to give off enough light to light up the other needes and they are too bright. Ill tell you how I made the leds (au dash) but the ef dash is preety much the same. -Get the bulb holder and sand the back away till you see the two prongs - At this part you should have the led and resitor part done make sure you have the resitor on the long leg. -When you put it in (im sure you alrady have shrink rap on the resistor leg) pull it though and cut the legs but leave like 1-2mm on the end -bend it back through as this makes a much better connection and solder Thats how I did it second time around first attempt i had the same issues as you but just practice and finding the best way. Your problem though sounds like you need to turn them around. Remember the resistor must be up the top hopefully your not putting them in upside down as that just wont work at all. Move them around a bit and you should be fine its annoying and tedious but it works in the end. Hope the long post helped. |

I did mine completely different to how it says on the doco. I wish i had a pic. Basically try to bend the legs of the LED and resistor around and use them as the contacts on the top of the bulb holder. i drilled two tiny holes in the bottom of the bulb holder, fed the led legs out through it, attatched the resistor to one, then bent the legs up to use as the contacts. Just fold them over to where the old ones were.
Doesn't sound that spectacular but creates an excellent contact and I have never had a problem with them Just my 2c, good luck mate Matt

We have added white LEDs to the our fleet of EFs and ELs.
Basically we didnt use bulb holders, just soldered the LED and resistor legs straight on to the board. This works a treat ! (The reason why we did this is we have replaced EVERY SINGLE BULB on the clusters with LEDs. Getting bulb holders would have made it a very expensive exercise for 6 cars...

NARVA sell pre made LED twist in globes to suit EF/L dash (not sure if eb/d/au r the same or not?)
Part numbers - 47904 - Blue 47894 - Red They just clip straight in like a normal globe, easy as! Got mine from sprint, had to order in though as they r not stock items. Perfect brightness. Only the climate control is different, i bought two high output blue 10mm wedge LED's for this, different brand, they came in a pack of 2 for 20 bucks. still just clip straight in like the originals.

No, the EA-ED clusters use a larger bulb holder, and a larger bulb. But im sure they'd be available also.

made mine a few months ago, in blue. now they sell them off the shelf (spewing!!!) had dramas with a couple of mine not working, but with a bit of fiddlin, got them to contact properly, and have worked fine ever since. did you notice that a funny smell came from the cluster at any time? i must have crossed something, because mine emitted a funny smell and some smoke came out. and we all know how when smoke escapes from something, it can be very costly to have it put back in....
luckily, i could resolder mine.

smoke means you shorted something, very little resistance causes alot of current to flow, and alot of heat is generated = smoke.
