It's the sensor for the climate control, senses the suns strength or whatever
It's not a light!

Nah it's not the 'ambient' sensor.
It senses... something else... I have NFI what it senses, but it ain't ambient.

Its the sunload sensor. Measures how strong the outside light is.

climate control computer uses it to measure how much sunlight is coming through the windscreen and adjusts the air cond accordingly if you are set to "Auto"

It measures the intensity of the strength of the sunlight. It allows the CC to gauge what level of effect the sunlight has on the heating and cooling inside the car.
eg, really hot strong sun, it keeps the aircon turned on alot longer and the fan higher to keep the temperature down. On a dull winters day, it will keep the blend door open more to allow for the fact the sun is not heating the inside of the car. On a hot windy day, but with a weak sun it may not run the fan as high or the aircon as long.... the list goes on... Does that answer tempt you to buy my EL GT's |

The CC, uses several sensors to determine how to run.
outside temp (located in the front bar) inside temp (located in the CC unit itself) sun load (the white 'bulb' in the dash, it's simply a light sensitive resistor) evap temp (temp of the cold bit of the air con system)
