Has anyone ever fitted a lock to the centre console? Has anyone ever fitted an actuating lock to the console that locks when the doors do?
Why would you fit a lock there? Well, I've installed a USB stereo and have the USB lead in the console. I run a thumb drive off it now. I'm considering fitting a USB Hard Drive in the dimple under the console lid, yet would like some security to do so. I also would like the stereo face to be locked away when I remove it and put it in there, and I'm sick of doing the glove box lock (and the wife has no key on her ring so cannot lock it) If someone broke in, would they be able to actuate the lock by pressing the button or opening the doors? I reckon I can reinforce the console lid with some metal attached to the hinges then across and down to the lock, as being a plastic lid, your mother could rip it off! Anyone have any great ideas?

Definitely possible, although id of course buy a spare to modify just in case it went badly.
The only problem i foresee is that the actuator itself is rather chunky, and fitting it somewhere in the console without being too intrusive might prove challenging. Good luck with it though,

Best way would to spring load the lid and use a solenoid from the fuel lid on a EF , and you can hide the switch anywhere, and have it set so you need it to have the car on or ACC to give it power to open it.
if you use a actuator that locks it when you lock your car and unloack the same way you end up with one problem, if someone breaks into your car and open the doors it will unlock the console.
