were they s**t speakers or was the positioning of the speaker bad? maybe the parcel shelf speakers drowned out the sound of the door speakers?

they were middle of the road Rockford stuff, but speakers are put in the same place on most sedans for a reason. Better sound. even shaped splits in the front doors, even shaped 2 ways in the parcel shelf. Thats the best set up there is. Extra speakers just make more noise, not better noise.

your probably right. rear door speakers would be pretty much useless if you have parcel shelf speakers

No. They're put in the doors and parcel shelf because there's room for them there. Ideal locations (vary from car to car) but usually involve tweeters up high (A pillar) and woofer in the doors. Or everything in the kick panels (downside of this is greatly reduced foot room). But having all speakers equidistant from your ears improves things. e.g. my GT-P tweeters and midrange in the A pillars woofers in the doors. No rear speakers. Then there's this car (winner many many times) woofer low and forward in the door, and midrange/tweeters in custom kick panels.

Agree with that, but not the kick panels. having them there is annoying for the reason that when your sitting there, your leg gets in the way of the sound. The best place to mount them is on the doors high up if you can. I love your custom pillars, can you pm me where to find more pics of your GT sound system? |

Depends on the car. There's no right answer for everyone. E.g. in my car, there's no way I could get speakers down there, there's not even enough room for my foot between the brake pedal and the kick panel. I've got to use the accelerator with my foot on an angle. Cars are a s**t environment for sound. Glass and hard plastics cause bad reflections. Your inside a big tin can with rattles etc. You can't really (unless you own a Maclaren F1) sit in the centre of the system, so everything is a compromise. So you do what you can to reduce the compromises. Things like speaker positioning and angles become essential, and tools like time alignment can be used to help fix non-perfect positioning. (some people try to use it to fix poor positioning, and introduce further problems). Things like sound deadening and dash mats help reduce rattles and reflections (yes, my GT-P has a grandpa spec dash mat for sound comps). Plenty more pics here: http://s136.photobucket.com/albums/q199/data_mine/

i had 6x9 sony explode speakers in my parcel shelf..... worst thing imaginable!!!! swapped them for a good set of 6.5 components and the difference was amazing!!!!
ive been mucking around with the rear doors and have put some cheap 70$ pioneer 6" in there... didnt sound too good but once i got some angled spacers to angle the speakers better it wasnt half bad... thinking about upgrading them to components too! but with my limited experience with sound systems my best advice for a good setup would be 6.5 components in the front doors, parcel shelf and rear doors with a good amp running them and a good solid 15" sub in the boot. i had 2x 12" sony subs in the back and found they didnt have enough 'thump' in them compared to the 15" pioneer one im running now.... hope this helps |

Whats funny in my personal opinion is how people want more speakers. 2 speakers sound better than 4. Because music is recorded into 2 channels. You dont need rear speakers for good sound up front. Thats only for the people in the back, who cares lol

i was hoping you'd reply ahahha, not 100% on the songs off the top of my head (im pretty sure theres a song on BMTH - suicide season - CUT UP) but say there willl be a quick metal style solo that will go from left to right a couple of times and then front to rear acouple of times. wouldnt that make it a 4 channel track? it'll turn out im wrong im waiting for a big reply with plenty of info haha.
