WHO In the hell would make music to sound s**t on an ipod where music sales matter, or 2 channel home stereo (still the most popular!). Where else is 4 channel audio besides in a car? 5.1 music is for home theater.. I think your hearing things. If im wrong that's ok. But read this ;)

Are you on dial up mate?

If you get impatient because the post seems to be not sending and you keep hitting the send key you will keep sending the same post.

Thread cleaned, and try not to get too impatient

You can get very realistic 3D effects from only 2 channels. Look up Binaural sound.

Amen! My system sounds SOOOOO much better with the rears disconnected, just running front splits and sub box in the boot. Rear speakers sound terrible in E series cars.

i was hoping you'd reply ahahha, not 100% on the songs off the top of my head (im pretty sure theres a song on BMTH - suicide season - CUT UP) but say there willl be a quick metal style solo that will go from left to right a couple of times and then front to rear acouple of times. wouldnt that make it a 4 channel track? it'll turn out im wrong im waiting for a big reply with plenty of info haha.

it cant go front to back
the only i can think u may think it is doing is if its going left to right and ur speakers are resevred to the right is connected to the left and left is connected to the right so when the music gos left to right in you car its really going across diangles

i work with home theaters everyday

I dont agree on this idea, but fiend has 6x9's in his front doors in the factory location. Have a trawl though his thread, you should find it.

Agreed, you'd have to be running some sort of surround mode to get front/rear separation. Can't happen with stereo playback.

is it realy worth having no back speakers AT ALL? does it make that much of a difference?

There are 2 reasons this is a good idea. 1, you spend more money on front speakers producing better sound. 2, when you have a sub in the boot, it pressurizes the boot, this then puts extra pressure on the speakers in the parcel shelf sometimes causing them to distort. EG sounds like poo...

soooo take speakers out and just have 2 holes in the parcel shelf, just put the speaker covers over the holes?

Yep, thats what i normally do and people are usually very pleased with the results ;)

It also acts as an easy vent for the sub to the cabin. Just as if you were folding down the rear seats

oh right so it de-pressurizes the boot aswell. very handy to know

Yes and Yes.

A misconception in car audio, the rear speakers are not for the people in the back.

They are known as ‘rear fill’ and are certainly required. You do not need to amplify these and you do not need to spend a fortune either. I usually put in 3 ways from the same manufacturer as the front speakers. Anyone who set’s up their system for SQ (sound quality) will fit rear fill. Your audio will sound s**t without it.

To test, I put on a CD (not Ipod, mp3, etc) and listen to it at a variety of levels with my eyes closed. Just listen.

In saying that, anyone with 6x9’s aren’t building a system for quality!
