I suppose if I looked some where that i could find out what is was used for I would but where.

So what is a map sensor used for??????

Map sensors:

The function of a map (manifold air presure) sensor, is to relate the engine load to the pcm / ecu in volts. Once again the map sensor is a variable resister it has a regulated voltage supply and a voltage signal back to the pcm /ecu.

The pcm /ecu see's the engine load and deciphers what part of the fuel or ignition map to use.

There are many types of map sensors some are mounted on the motor and others on the body some are dual porpose with integrated temp sensors. The Ford ba xr6t for example uses two, one in the manifold which is a dual porpose and one on the plumbing.
