Ok, so I got the red design and had a play with it and came up with this.
Let me know what you all think. I will try and get them printed up soon. I was thinkin I might paint the needles white. Any thoughts? BenJ

if you painted the needles you wont be able to see them at night the light wont be able to flow through them

In the EA to ED the needles are metal and do not have light in them. They reflect the light that shines on them from the front top edge of the cluster.

Ok I had my guages printed at Snap printing at Blacktown. It cost me around the $20 dollar mark for three copies of each file. They charge a $5.50 fee to upload one file and then $1.50 for each print.
You should ask them not to resize the files. They were very friendly and helpful. While I was out, I 'acquired' a spare set of needles and face plates. I also dropped by the local newsagent and bought a silver permanent marker and an A4 clear presentation folder. Typically previous cluster mods have just been stuck to the front of the existing dials, but I didn't think this would allow enough light though. Using the plastic from the folder, which was sort of frosted looking and thick enough to be used as a back plate, I traced and cut out templates using scissors and a stanley knife blade. Very time consuming. I coloured in the second set of needles with the silver pen. I also cut out one set of my cluster print and fitted them on top of the new templates to the cluster. Here is the result. Overall I am very happy with the look ......... during the day. At night however, it's a different story. While the red dials lighting up has a certain attraction, the white numbers are just too hard to see. Also the silver needles don't relflect the light. I am working on a way to print a blackout on the back of one of my other prints. At this point I am yet to glue the prints down. They are lifting a bit. I will post the result when it is done. Regards BenJ

Mate, that is the best way, trust me, the light shines through heaps if you printed on 80gsm thickness paper. Any thicker and you lose visibilty. Other than that, looks great when fitted!!!! EDIT: I guess if you wanted to keep it how it is with the red glow at night, maybe change the colour of the white numbers, marks etc to black numbers so they contrast enough to be visible..... |

Yes, I have thought about this as an option. I have a set of prints and a spare set of the original guages. I will see what it looks like glued down. BenJ

i had a crazy idea and some1 shut me down if it wouldnt work...
what if u got white perspex cut to the exact shape as the plastic backing, then get black (or whatever color) computer cut sticker of the face. so that you could do the led conversion and the dials would look good day and night... ?????????????????????????????????????????????? |

that could work but you need the perspex thin.

In effect that is what I have done.
If I use a black face with white markings, that is the effect you would end up with. BenJ
