Pfft, I'm just about to leave from Canberra. Would love to see them IRL. Photos just can't to the real thing justice.

if you want a better photo - close your apperture and use a slightly longer shutter speed - hehe that is of course if you can set that on your camera. But it will help, oh having it dead still will also be a yes yes!

actually, just one more question, did you HAVE to use the white led's as in datmines one? or are the standard globes just not bright enough?

Standard globes not bright enough, and the LEDs as direct from NARVA are too dim, need to replace the resistor with one of a lower value, I used a 390Ohm.

Cool, now comes the big question... :)

if i were to run the white narva leds in place of the standard globes, AND piggy back a red led to under the needle... what resistor would i need to run?

I dont know how the maths of it work just yet, so help is appreciated. :D and is it possible to piggy bavk another led off the narva things, i havent seen them in real life.

Thanks

By far the easiest way is to run everything in parallel. That way each LED has it's own resistor, so you don't have to worry about calculating the values.

But for those who want to know, you need...

Vf - LED forward voltage drop somewhere between 2 and 4 volts depending on the LED.
I - current you want the LED to use - more the brighter - until it releases the magic smoke. 30mA is a good level for most LEDs.
Vi - input voltage for car use I always work off 13.8V.
R - series resistance you'll need to run the LED safetly using the above parameters.

R = Vi - (Vf + Vf + Vf) / I
repeat Vf as required the the LEDs you're running in serial.

So for two 2.5Vf LEDs running at 30mA (from 13.8V), you'll want a 290Ohm resistor.

HAHA YES! i get that ALL the time from my mum, dad never notices when im working on the car as he works during the night, sleeps during the day, mum however, she works all weekend, morning and afternoon shift, but sometimes she'll come home in between shifts, and see my car in a thousand pieces! i remember her face when i was replacing all my speakers, had the rear seat on the roof, all the door trims off, all the doors open, and old speakers all over the ground, wires all over the place! oh man it was a pissa, i used to have pics of it, dont anymore :( but it was the best! ya gotta love it when you pull your car apart, and people walk past and go, what the hell! and looking at the end result, oh its the best!

not good for your confidence when someone starts telling you that half way through. she didnt come down again after that!! :-P
