Great inspiration from Datamine & Bug got myself modding my EA S Pac Dash. The Speedo & Tacho dials are completed and yet to finish the 4 smaller guages.
Somehow I need to make my white T10 LEDs brighter... Is there anything I can add to circuit to make LEDs brighter. Normal photos looks best however night photo is much to be desired, very hard to get a good photo in the dark.

very nice, you make the LEDs bright my replacing the resistors with ones of lower value.
I used 390Ohm in mine (original was 560Ohm).

Why doesnt anyone use the normal globes? Surely if the design was made to suit, colour change wouldnt be too bad, and theyd have better spread? Probably not bright enough though are they.

Not bright enough is the problem. You could of course replace them with higher wattage globes.
But LEDs are what all the cool people are doing, and if done right will never need changing.

If done right
How big are the globes in the dash? Same size as the ones in the eb heater controls?

hello long time no see lost or cant remeber my login.
have dash cluster from ebay in my ed The dash, floor and trip computer Led`s are the same 10mm spade . Lighter dimister switch are a smaller spade led`s. Heater controls are different more like chrismas globe managed to remove the small spade led apart and solder to the into the heater control because of the lack of clearance when fitting back into dash. I thought that the clusters had an orange backing so that you couldn't modify EA-ED Clusters, but looking at the pics is this incorrect.

Did you cut out any sections in your mask ? In data mine's I think he had just the ford logo and the speedo markings etc but yours seems fairly well lit all over the face of it. Was that because you oiled it ? I tried a similar trick on a previous project, but I used some of my GF's clear nail polish (that was on crappy plain paper though) How are you buying this good paper ? I've only seen it in packs of 50 odd sheets which is a bit much for a project like this... I'm planning to do this sort of dash mod when I have my cluster out shortly, but I was going to try using UV LEDs as well to supplement the often dim backlighting that results from fitting LEDs. Most of this you beut whiter than white paper flouresses really well under UV light, so I'm going to fit a few UV leds in the top of the cluster like spot lights that will shine down on the dials. It should be largely invisible but the white markings will glow brilliantly The dash is an original design.. im considering doing some more when I have the time, even if I dont use them ide like to contribute some art to the people on this site. Ive since ripped out the oiled masks (the oil leaked into the front paper) and replaced them with transparencies. this is by far the BEST method ive found so far. Also ive now added 4 additional LED's to the dash by stringing them around the dials in a christmas light fashion (wire resisitors in parallel). The dash is very bright now, i'll post pics as soon as I get access to a camera again. Also I didnt buy the paper but rather got it done at a professional printing shop. it cost $2 a page, and $3.50 for the transparencies.

Bug, is there anything stopping you using the transparencies for front? (instead of just the back layer) this seems like the best way to go... or is that what you have done?
one more question (i am being a noob now ) do you have to stick the two layers together? or do you just cut them out and then they stay in place with the front? hrmm... i need to start being creative... |

ive been searching all night and can find an answer, Can you do the custom dash thing and blue led mod to a EA-ED cluster? I know there are Kits off ebay to do white faces but has anyone done a custom thing with pics?

No reason why you can't, you'll just need a scan of the originals to start from.

Ide imagine using two layers of transparencies wouldnt look very good, especially at day as there would be no white and very hard to read. Some paper is really needed in order to spread the LED light evenly around. One thing that could be worth looking at is putting the paper on the bottom (masks), and the transparencies on the top. This means that the inner face of the dials is all white allowing greater light reflection and more evenness. Also you dont need to stick the two segments together, assuming you take your time cutting the holes out they should line up fine.
