Here is my version of data_mine's excellent dash mod.

http://www.digital-confusion.net/dash/speedo_mask.jpg
http://www.digital-confusion.net/dash/tacho_red.jpg
http://www.digital-confusion.net/dash/t ... d_mask.jpg

Here are the files!
The tacho has a slight change, with the redline now being actually red.

Some tips for anyone about to mutilate their dash.

90 GSM semi gloss paper is a MILLION times better than the normal 80gsm stuff as far as the image quality goes, and it only cuts a tiny bit more light out (dont use 160GSM though unless you add additonal lighting to the cluster, although it will create a more even look)

For the back layer use transparencies. They cost a little more but provide a much better contrast as two layers of paper cuts a huge amount of light out.

I also removed the tube that goes where the little seatbelt man light is as it showed up badly through the mask, and I used 10,000mcd LED's from jaycar.

Dude that looks friggin fantastic. The design looks wicked, and looks even better lit up.
Did you have any other designs, or at least another idea to show us??
You seem to be pretty good at that judging by them dials.

That was pretty much the first one I knocked up, although I reckon I might do some more in the future.

There is a tutorial on how to disassemble the LED screens somewhere on here I think, if not its pretty straight forward (unscrew everything, then reverse). I replaced the orange filters with blue segments I cut out from a magazine (make sure its white on the back!) as blue paper had a papery look, and I used a 4000mcd blue led from jaycar.

Thats bloody awesome. I like much!!

One question, do your fuel and temp idiot lights work like normal? ie: light up properly? how did you do them?

They light up kinda normal. Tthe orig scans didnt have any provision for them but I added dark red squares. Theyre far more subtle than the normal ones though.
