Theyd be always on. If you dont know what you're doing, just get a 2 pole switch. Positive from the ciggy lighter on one pin, positive going to the neons on the other. You dont run the negative through the switch. Earth the "neon transformer" nearby to the car with a ring terminal and a self tapping screw.

Oh. No, they wouldnt actually be always on, theyd fry fuses as soon as you hook up ciggy lighter power. 3 pin switches work by shorting out the middle and either outside pins depending on the position its in. What you are doing there is touching positive an negative. Not good man.

I forgot to mention that the rocker switch also has a led in it to indicate that its on.. if that makes a difference? |

Im not going to go to the effort of that, Ill explain it to you better so you understand what you are doing (no offense)
3 pole switches only touch the common pin (middle one) and an outside pin. These can activate 2 circuits, with the middle pin being a positive, and either outside pins being positive supplies to different circuits. Following me? By getting a 2 pin switch (simple on/off switch), when the switch is in the off position, the pins arent touching. When it is on, the 2 pins are touching, meaning your input voltage (12v from cig lighter) is touching the other pin, which is going to the positive on your neons. Following me? Dont run a LED switch, they're gay. Get a big switch and a missile cover. So, basically, you have a switch with 2 pins on the bottom. On one goes the positive from your cig lighter, on the other goes the positive wire from your neons. The negative wire from your neons DOESNT GO ON THE SWITCH. Either run it straight from the cig lighter negative to the neons, or find a good earth point nearby where the neons are going. The latter option is the easiest. Damn, that guy beat me to it

run neg from trans straight to ground.
cut pos wire and wire to one of each pole on the switch then to a switched power supply. led pole on switch to earth. |

With that 3 pin. 12v from cig lighter on the middle pin. 12v to the neon on either outside one (doesnt matter which one). Again, NEGATIVES DONT GO ON THE SWITCH. Also, I reckon you might have to put the positive to the neons on that gold terminal Id say that where the led gets its power.

More than likely the centre pin of that switch will go direct to earth for the led.
the two outside ones will go between the two cut ends of the power wire from the transformer. |

the gold pin on that switch is used to illuminated the led... if you don't want the led to light up then do as mentioned above and ignore the gold pin... They use this to indicate the LED in them (makes it easier)...
Without seeing the pic on the side of the switch its hard to say how to wire it up to get the light to come on... If you post/draw the pic on the side of the switch I'll draw up how to wire it so your LED lights if you wanna use what you have already paid for... Cheers, Tim
