As an alternative to mounting the neons up under the dash I put my neons on top of the ridge in the floorpan (between where the front seat bolts go in). Positioned here the light is a lot more subtle, kept low and as an added bonus does both the front and rear footwells with only two 20cm tubes.
The light is only really visible from inside the car unless your looking down and in from outside and being up on the ridge means that things under the seat cant bash into and damage them (ie a street directory) Just a thought anyway Daniel |

They tend to flicker off slowly instead. Perhaps an even cooler effect.

i got an old stick of neon light off a pc, i stripped the molex connector and soldered it to a car cigarette adpator (off a mobile phone charger)
it's mounted in front of the front seat, underneath the latch you pull to move forwards/backwards. The ricey thing with the neon i got has a beat sensor, so it turn on/off accordingly to the beats... good thing about mounting the neons in the footwells is that it can't be seen outside, which *can* distract other drivers... (apparently i heard that it's illegal to have neons in NSW, can someone clarify this?) |

I actually do use my cig lighter - to power my iPAQ / GPS on trips, and I carry a phone charger just in case too. I've also wired upa cig lighter socket in the boot, as I've got a 12V work light. Got stuck with a flat one dark dark night, had to change a wheel with no light all by feel - never again I said. Checked it all the next morn only to find I put the wheel nuts on backwards!

The setup in the picture is not there anymore. The neons stuffed up. I want to fix another one now but this time with led lights instead but i dont know whether to put blue or red. From what ive heard led lights are much better because they are brighter and last longer.
