Dial Scans Available (care of Ryan0001).
Nice high series cluster, speedo with 5K marks/tacho/fuel/temp/oil/battery

Speedo/Temp/Batt: {DESCRIPTION} / {DESCRIPTION}

Tacho/Fuel/Oil: {DESCRIPTION} / {DESCRIPTION}

I suggest everyone get the JPG versions, unless you must absolutely have the losslessly compressed PNGs (17MB each, the original BMPs were 30MB each).

edit: when I get soem spare time, I'll work on a blank vector template to make adding you're own pics easier.

Ok spent some time cleaning up the original scans (which brought the file sizes down alot), and I've now got two PSDs (Photoshop) files containing the 600dpi cleaned up images, already masked. So all you have to do is add you're pic(s) in and the dial markings will still show. Of course if you want to redo your own markings go for it (the mask will be helpful for that so you get the speedo and tacho ticks in the right place).

Speedo: PSD {DESCRIPTION}
Tacho: PSD {DESCRIPTION}

Heres what I've been playing with over the w/e.
{DESCRIPTION}

Thinking about masking...

Nightime highlights.

Using two pieces of paper, one (top) is the daytime view, the bottom piece, is maksed for nighttime highlights.

Pic 1: The two layers, not the cutout for the ford logo.
{DESCRIPTION}

Pic 2: Excuse the blur, while I hold the two pieces up to a light AND take a picture with a 1/8 sec shutter. Note the logo!
{DESCRIPTION}

BTW: my printer is out of yellow, which is why the colours look wrong.

Very nice indeed...is it workable, like will it actually work once inside a cluster?

Regarding the idea of printing these things with a regular inkjet printer:

It's worth taking into consideration that even the best of inkjets will still fade and discolour when exposed to high temperatures. It's probably worth running a test by printing something out on whatever paper/transparency/whatever you're planning to use and tossing it in your boot for a couple of weeks to see what happens. Maybe print a control copy so you can compare the two later on.

I have a couple of high-quality inkjet prints on my wall in the house that have faded horribly simply from radiant heat through the wall over summer, and I well imagine the inside of your car's gonna cook even more than that.

It'd be a prick of a job to replace your dials due to fading.

Datazoid, I'd already thought of that, and will print the finals out at work on the colour laser, on quality paper or overhead plastic. So it should be ok, as for how long it will last, I'm unsure.

twirqurky, Without having ever seen (personally) what the real dials are made from - I assume some translucent plastic material. I've played with backlighting the two sheets (see previous pics) it appears it'll work well. You really have to see it for real, that photo is crappy, due to my lack of three arms. When both sheets are aligned properly the tick marks and numbers show up brilliantly, crisp and clear, and the ford logo lights up nicely. In normal daylight - no backlight - the picture looks good (except for the yellow-less colour).

I have high hopes for it, and will hopefully, get some printing done when I go back to work :). As for pulling apart my cluster, I want to replace the globes with white LEDs, so will organsie time off work and get everything done at once. I'll also replace the smartlock light with my alarms flasher LED.

Might be wise to leave be the smartlock light - just in case you need to troubleshoot smartlock later on. I've fitted my alarm LED in the fog light caption above - a thief might think twice when they see both lights flashing.
I've fitted an alarm to my other falcon, and will do the same - this time, I want to fit it in a bulb holder, so it's easier to remove. I'll let the forum know how I go.

Sure, except I've bypassed smartlock entirely (to get remote start working), and the light remains ON all the time.

Well in that case, you could use the Smartlock LED as the alarm light if you wanted to.

Yeah, but my alarm came with a blue LED - I want blue damnit. Since I'll be doing white LEDs in the cluster. Gotta have blue somewhere, be 'original' lol.

Actually, a blue flashing smartlock caption might be worth experimenting with. :lol:
