This is the new wheel i just put in my ed fairmont, ive been looking for a wood grain for ages and happened to stumble across this in auto pro.

nice i like it, does wood grain give as much grip as a normal wheel wuld or mor?

Not sure on the grip, but it feels wicked when driving.
Nice and smooth, I can't wait to drive it again tomorrow. |

p.s. thats one neat boxcar interior. Yes i agree the autotecknika badge is pretty crappy, im going to try to get a ford one soon. The interior is sweet as, the only minor ruff spot is on the drivers seat where i get in and out, other than that the leather is in great condition. P.S. If anyone knows where i can get a ford center for this wheel please contact me. Thanks. |

would that be safe if you had a crash? looks real hard and sharp, always thought this about the wood grain...
have to admit though it does look really well. what did u do with your cruise?

I have also been looking at wheels, but want to figure out the cruise first.
As I understand it, you can't just replace the buttons. You need to have resistors to adjust the voltage for each button. I would also suggest you mount the on/off buttons somewhere else as you only have to press it on once. Or you could wire it up to come on with the ignition. Then you only have to worry about two buttons. Will follow you progress with interest. Regards BenJ

Thanks for the interest guys, I have been messing with the standard buttons to see how it all works and have come up with a bit of a plan but have not decided on buttons and the placement as yet.
I was thinking along the lines of small momentary push buttons hidden just behind the wheel face, or small toggles hidden just behind the wheel. Regards BenJ Yeh the set and coast buttons use resistors the set is 330 ohm and the coast is 1000 ohm. I was thinking of moving them all together and putting them in the console just infront of the console lid in that little pocket but i recon that might be even more work. have to admit though it does look really well. what did u do with your cruise? Im not to sure i want to have a crash at all but i recon its not much different than a normal sports wheel, other than the padded surround. Im really happy with the wheel and the colour match its as close as i recon i could get. |

I use my cruise control a lot.
So for me it would be important to have the set/cruise buttons readily accessible. I don't think it would be possible to mount them on the wheel as the boss wouldn't have the necessary wiring etc. I did give the steering column some thought, but in the end decided it would be too awkward to use. What about fabricating/modfying some sort of stalk behind the wheel? Or somewhere on the right hand side of the dash. Would have to look good though. Any other ideas/suggestions out there. BenJ

you could modify it to fit under the trop computer where that little compartmenet is, it would probably require extending the wires but with a creative mind im sure it can be done. anyone tried??

is that a cat in the 1st pic sleeping on the seat? I like the pretty yellow air freshener too.. as previously stated.. nice clean interior too.. I like the look of the wheel.
Just a thought but you could cut the old buttons out of the wheel and mount them on the center console somethere.

The yellow air freshener is the only one worth buying the rest stink..... get it, stink, hehe. Ive decided on toggle switches mounted behind the face of the wheel, its a bit hard to describe but i will be doing it hopefully this weekend or next, so ill keep you all posted and take a heap of pics of the process. hopefully it will inspire people to ditch the old standard wheel for something a little more modern. |

Wouldn't you need to use momentary switches? As that is similar to the factory arrangement?
