G'day fellas. I'm trying to figure out what the function are on the panel in this pic. I copied the pic from another post, but my car is a 96 Fairlane Ghia.
What do all the different readouts mean? It seems to have something to do with the suspension too? The only bit i've sussed is the over speed alarm. Any help would be great - cheers. |

Gidday.
That is the Trip Computer/Over Speed alert. The Over Speed alert can be set to beep at the desired set speed to remind you to lay off the right foot. The Trip Computer shows from the top down Instant L/100k Avg L/100k Avg Speed Distance to Empty - with audible reminders at 80, 40 and 20 Cheers BenJ

Cheers Ben. So basically it's just fuel / speed alarms and info. Can you tell me why it's flashing SET all the time and how to get rid of it?

You may have had your battery disconnected and its asking you to set the time and date and year.

Probably had the battery disconnected at some point.
Sounds like it could be the Over Speed bit. Hit the O/Speed button and see if it goes away. I don't usually use the O/Speed alarm at all. Play with all the buttons and work out how to use it. The best advice I can offer is for you to go and buy a Gregorys or similar workshop manual. Most of these topics are covered, and in my opinion, is one of the most important parts of a home mechanics toolbox. Cheers BenJ

Yeah "set", to do with the time, and the gregory manual doesn't tell you how to set it, might want to even go to a wreckers and grab an owners manual, as it's a slight head f**k setting it, took me f**k ages to work out, now I've got to do it again. haha
either that or just live with set, and a unset clock, I am.

Cheers for the help guys. I eventually sussed it after playing around for a good hour. I pressed both serch and reset together about 20 times and then it suddenly worked and the time started flashing. You just use the reset button to change the day/time/date etc and the seach button to get to the next item. Once it was all done the bloody 'SET' went away and the correct time displayed!

By the way OZBMX - i really like the gearstick and the woodgrain surrounds in the pic in your post. Looks great - did you do that yourself? Where can you get hold of the woodgrain panelling?

The 'set' Means that the time/date has not been set since the trip comp has been reconnected. No need to buy a workshop manual. All the info (except how to set it) is in the Trip computer tech doc. To set it, it is either hold search and tap reset, or it is hold reset and tap search. This is in the owner's manual (and the genuine workshop manuals). I'll look when I get home (if someone doesn't post it first).

Why would someone disconnect the trip computer? Should I be worried that the 'SET' was flashing when I bought it?

It just means that the trip comp was without power, and the time had not been set since. The battery could have been disconnected, the fuse may have blown. There are many things that would have caused the trip comp to lose power - none of them would be a major issue. You would disconnect the trip comp to pull the fascia off. Trip computer will come off with the fascia. It does not remain connected. This could be for many reasons, such as changing the headunit (a common practice is for sellers to revert this to stock), replacing the cluster bulbs etc.
