I didn't even know this feature exsisted, until I locked the keys in the car....
I unlocked the funbus with the remote, opened the tailgate, got what I needed, threw the keys in the drivers seat, and went inside, as I was leaving in a minute or two anyways, and the car was in the garage. Well blow me down, the car was locked when I went back out. With my keys INSIDE!!! Apparently if you unlock the car via the remote, and don't actually open a door, it locks itself again. Does anyone know if this can be disarmed or not?

no - it is a feature of the BEM (from EF series 2's onwards I believe) however I would have thought opening the tailgate would be counted as opening a door!!

hmm that would be annoying.
as far as i know i dont htink you could change it, as Happy said its part of the BEM. unless you went aftermarket central locking maybe.

Mine is an EF Series 1 and has this feature! I believe the tailgate does count as a door! You probably find your sensor in the tailgate is f**k, there a s**t one and get stuffed easily, and so that's why it didn't relise that actually you had opened a door. Easiest way to test is, when you open your tailgate and all other doors are shut, do your interior lights come on? If they do not, then your sensor is buggered. I learnt this the hard way when I was stuck 250km's from home at a matesdads joint, spare keys wern't around! |

hmmm my wagon does this aswell.
i always thought it was the sensor tho, as when you open the tailgate the interior lights never come on

shouldn't need a spare keypad, so long as you've got a spare key you can unlock the doors/tailgate. |

I would have thought that keyfobs are easier to come across than keys? The keys look mighty expensive (read: need a ford dealer).

The interior lights work with the tailgate open as well.
