Hey, im looking to paint the interior of my car blue to match the colour theme was just wondering how id have to prepare the interior parts?
like sanding or anything? im looking at doing the surround of the speedo, and electric window controls surround (centre console area).. and yeah, just a few other little bits.

Also is there chrome door handles for an NA fairlane?? and is the chrome both inside and out?

Any help is appreciated :)

unless you want it to look 'textured' (and crap IMHO), you'll have to sand it all back smooth, prime it with a high fill primer, and paint, light sand, paint, light sand, clear coat, ligth sand, clear coat. Then Polish.

I'm doing some now, sand back with 180/200grit, prime/fill, (i'm here) sand smooth with 400 grit (and maybe 800 to be sure), paint, sand with 1200/2000 grit, repeat, and 1200/2000, clear coat, repeat

I didnt sand mine back, I dont mind the textured look...

Have a look here:

http://www.fordmods.com/phpBB2/viewtopi ... highlight=

and in my gallery. All I did was clean all the parts with some kero to get rid of all the silicone/armourall etc....then washed with warm soapy water, then applied the paint...no undercoat required.

I'm now sanded smooth to 800 grit. Ready to clean and paint tomorrow.

Yea, clean the parts, sand back, then clean again to get rid of the dust etc...then spray away...I just used normal spray paint, el cheapo from Supercheap...did the job fine...

I found it best to apply lots of really thin coats

I did my cluster/headunit surround, wiped it clean with a chamois, give it a light rub with some 0000 steel wool, gave it a couple of coats of plastic primer, and a few coats of colour. Turned out sweet.

did mine in silver, didnt sand it, didnt prime it, didnt clean it, and it came up a treat! the textured look gave it a real factory look.

Mines now painted to clear coated, needs final sand and clear coat, then polish.
