Hello again.
I brought my car second hand, private sale as is condition. Problem is as follows:- Switch headlight on, both headlights come on, go over a bump or pot hole and passenger low beam headlight goes out, switch to high beam and passenger and drivers hight beam is on. Switch high beam off and passneger low beam does not come on....drive bit of distance and the low beam comes back on. On other occassions both lights work and on smooth road passeger low beam goes out. I have changed light bulbs and still problem persists. When I place my hand and fiddle with the cables going to that unit (left side headlight) the low beam comes back on. Would anyone know what the fault could be or where to start looking for it? Would it be easier just to get another wiring harness from a wreck and replace the whole thing (after carefully checking the wires from the wreck to see if they are not broken)? It's annoying. Why don't you carefully check for broken wires in your original harness.Use a testlight and trace the lowbeam wire until you find the break.If you have to, remove the tape that is wrapped around the harness and stretch and pull on the individual wire until it breaks or you can use the testlight when the low beam isn't working.Hope this helps.

G'day Kevman, Yeah I was thinking of doing that but where does one start from? There's not much room to place probes on the passenger side. |

i might have to try this im having the same problem. except drivers side is the faulty one. every tiny bump causes it to go out.

i jhad this problem in my very first el problem was caused by the actual globe not being fully seated in its mount but still clipped in ..
give that a look |

Remove the headlight or the air box to access the wiring.Without seeing your model car I can only say does the harness into the headlight go through a grommet or is it an electrical connector.If it has a connector pull it apart and see if any of the pins are burnt or melted.Cheers Kevman.

As promised yesterday, here are the photos. These pics represent the passenger side headlight assembly wiring loom as seen from inisde the vehicle (under the bonnet).
Any advice as to where to check from is welcome. Cheers

Using a testlight ,put the clip onto the motor and test to make sure you have an earth by putting the tip or probe to the battery positive if it lights up you are on your way.Turn on headlights check to see if LH headlight is working.Pull the plug off the bulb and using testlight probe check for power.If the headlight was working find out what colour wire is the low beam.Wriggle wires until it stops working and then probe the low beam wire until you find the break.And then you repair it using soldering iron and solder and electrical tape or crimp pliers and joiner crimps .Et voila it is fixed.Thank you thank you .Hope this helps.Kevman.

Hi all,
For all those who have been affected by the flood, I wish you well and hope you recover soon. As for my headlight problem, seemed to have solved the mystery for reasons unknown to me, somehow the plug was loose and was not making a good connection, it is now. I tested the headlights and never went out even over bumps and potholes. Cheers, |
