Sorry bout the quality but i took it with my phone.
without sanding the led's you don't get the dark spots using the standard facia's and i also have blue filters behind them and it's still bright.

I recently did my dash, replaced all the bulbs with blue leds, this includes dash, heat, fan, vent, rear demister controls, and transmission lights, the only problem is with my LCD display on my dash, i have an AU so its only a small lcd screen that shows cruise, economy, km, distance to empty etc etc.... i put blue LEDs behind this screen and because leds have a small viewing angle it looks s**t, u can see 2 spots of light on the screen where the light shines through but everything else is dark, i have tried the following:
Sanded the tops of LEDs flat, increasing viewing angle. This helped a little Put a frosted perspex filter behind the LCD to try and blur the light Put an extra 2 LEDs behind the screen And a few other small things I dont seem to be able to find a filter that blurs light to make it even over the entire screen... I am out of ideas and getting frustrated because you can barely read it in the day time, i need some way of making the blue light even over the entire screen, anyone got any ideas because im getting really depressed and might cry soon.... It would be all good if there was a ultra bright blue led out there that had a 180 degree viewing angle

I have read this thread over a couple of times now and cant find the answer im looking for...
a fair few months ago, I done my speedo etc etc in blue leds...I also pulled out the clock (fairmont) and climate control unit....I took the globes out and noticed that it would be fairly easy to change their colour. The problem is, Iv forgotten what globes they were and don't wanna go pullin apart the dash again, just to check globes, and create more work.... So my question is, does neone know what globes they are? or if they know of led's that fit and lite up alright, what brand?, where from? and more importantly, how much? Thank You Also, the odometer looks s**t on that cluster with EVERYTHING else blue....needs to be a diff colour, that stands out, but doesnt take over the blue effect....which could be hard...but i think its worth lookin into

paper works good behind lcd's. I used a white piece of paper behind my odometer... and a blue LED (not sanded or frosted or whatever)

hey razor i had the same prob with my trip computer, could not see it during the day so after trying nearly everything the best thing i did was put a blue filter then white normal paper then i used 3 LED's that ran from one controller that was sposed to be used for a computer modding.
4 Led's would have been better but i can see my trip during the day and also angle the leds up and down facing the edges of the lcd so you don't get round circles.

it's a little hard to see in the day but only if the sun shines directly on it. Other than that it lights up fine during the day.

paulc wrote: Hi Andrich, as you have probably found if you checked the Doco that you need 6 LED's to do you dash. You can get them from Narva, part number 47902, you can get them from Autobarn or Repco. Get a pack of 10, it's a hell of a lot cheaper. I used these and found them a bit directional, as they are, even after I sanded the tips to disperse the light a bit more. I found these globes on EBay and they are terrific they plug into your white or black globe holders, you won't be able to use the blue ones as the globes don't come out as they do with the black of white, just grab hold of the globe and pull. The new globe (LED) just pushes in. The same guy also has T10 LED's that just plug and play as well. As all LED's are only good when plugged in the correct polarity, I have attached a pic of the Cluster and the polarity, the pic is not mine, it was sent to me by a friend. You can checkl the polaity of your LED's by using a 9volt battery and sonme wire and small clips. I just marked mine with a red marking pen to show the correct side for positive. Hope this helps. Hi Hellbent_EF, I posted this on page 2 of this topic. It is relivent to EF/EL which may be right for you going by your pics (EF/EL Fairmont). The globes you need for yopur climate control are T10. Hope this helps |
