I had an electric window that took forever to go up, i had to use my hand to pull the glass forward half way up to keep it moving upwards. I went and pulled the whole door off, looked at the whole thing and thought, the resistance here is in the rubbers on the sides, i got my can of degreaser and the slightest squirt inside each rubber well where the windows are held in removed the resistance and the window works a treat, after one week its running very well. Degreaser did and does not require washing out, window freed up immediately.
Unless your problems involve something damaged, why would you want to spend half a day, even an hour removing the doors and fiddling around with anything else. If i overlooked something please dont flame me, i am just noting my experience for the benefit of others. Cheers

Hey guys. Sorry to bring this thread back up but its better than starting another one.
Just curious as to whether you guys ahve been taking the door trims off while using the spray or graphite powder??? I am needing to lube up the fairlane and dont want to have to pull apart the door trim if I dont have to. Cheers

No, you dont have to, get some degreaser and spray it down the sides of the runners (where the glass runs up and down

hello a couple of questions /problems that i am having
1.) the motors look like there rivited to the door is this normal ? 2.) rear passanger windows jams moving up only while making a crunching noise as it gose up the noise is there on the downward motion but not as noticable it takes several attemps to get this window back up

ps i love the torx bit to remove the door handle I DONT HAVE ONE and yea i just sold my 30yo val and have no metric tools makes this job more fun

Hey guys,
My newish car (new for me, 5 years old in its life) has an issue (2003 BA Wagon XT). The front power windows (rear windows are manual) don't work straight away in the car. Sometimes you will have to drive for a good 10 mins before the windows will open/close. What could be causing this? The battery is the original battery that came with the car when it was new (so the battery is 5 years old too). To me its like the battery has to charge up before they work. It also seemss that they take longer to work when its colder, but that might just be my imagination. Thanks for your help. Tom |

Just did my windows tonight used the silcone spray and it works excellent straight away
ill get back to you in a 1 week or so and see how its travelling i wonder how long it takes for that build up to start every1 was talking about.... suppose it depends on the conditions the car is kept but yeah great topic seems to be a big issue though...... Tomdrum sounds very weird to me that 1 .....

I have the same problem too. I use tyre shine. Usually my window needs help at the half way up point when wet. They should of put more powerful motors in them!!

all four of my windows were working fine.
then i decided to spray lithium grease down the runners as preventative maintenace..... now all four windows are sticking. I cleaned the runners out and tried silicone spray, same outcome lesson here is, if it aint broke, dont f**k try fix it !!! |

On my 1996 Fairlane Ghia the passenger window goes up and down fine, but makes a worrying clicking noise as it moves. The rear passanger sometimes makes the same sound? Any ideas as to the problem and fix?

hi everyone,
I have an AU XL(SE) Ute, which came with just the standard windy windows, I have the door trims, the vinyl and the regs from another car that had power windows, so i'd pretty much be replacing the whole inside of the doors, I'm hoping to make a conversion to power windows, I'm Just wondering whether anybody has made a conversion before, and how much of a job it is with the electrical setup, Is it just a matter of hooking up a power and earth? or is it more of a major job? |
