People,
I've done the conversion on my GLi and I wanted to pass on some info you may not know. The short of it is DO NOT GET GREASE ON THE CABLE. Grease up the slide the regulator runs on but do not get grease on the cable. It doesn't need grease and what seems to happen, is over time the grease will thicken up inside the cable tubes with dust and moisture and increase friction, this is the most common cause of power window reg failures. Hope this helps!!

Happy, also the runners are a big problem in the e series.
quick steps to fix em a) take off door trims b) get a flathead screw driver, degreaser, and a rag. c) rap the rag around the screw driver, spray the runners with degreaser all the way up and down. d) run the screwdriver with the rag along them scrubbing it out e) use a spray bottle of water or hose watever you prefer to get out the degreaser from the runners f) clean them again with rag/screwdriver g) spray NULON EZY-GLIDE (red can) all the way through, you should almost waste a whole can on all 4 windows.. give it a 2-3 days for them to start moving quicker. if you really want, attempt to clean the glass of gunk/grease where they sit in the runners to. makes a HUGE difference. most especially if your front windows fall inwards whilst winding upwards. |

I use silicon grease on the window runners and they windows hit top speed on the up and down now.
Window races have never been so much fun. |

Amazing thing is, mine 90% of the time do it after it has rained
once water gets around the windows they slow down or sometimes stop when going up then on dry days they're ok is that all to do with water and oil not being good bed fellows?

I just used silicon spray on my front electric windows and they're quicker than ever now. Very easy to do

I agree
I have same issues when it rains to the point you have to grab the window and help pull it closed! Does anyone know why this is so and the most applicable remedy??

Hey Guys
Since we're talking about power windows, Does anyone have any ideas on what may be my problem. On my wifes AU3 XR6 the front passengers side window wont work from the switch, but it works fine from the main control on the drivers side, Any ideas??

I had this probem with the AU Fairmont windows. It's caused by an accumulation of carbon on the switch contacts. If you're handy and can manage it, you will need to dismantle the switch that's causing the problem and clean the copper contact then re-assemble it. Worked really well for me. Be careful dismantelling the switch as there are small pieces. You don't want to lose anything and you want to remember how everything goes back togther again. Good luck |
