I would like to know how easy it is to replace front passenger side power window motor. Are the motors expensive. Is the motor sh*tting itself a common problem

They are fairly easy to change if you know you way around the inside of a door, X series or E. Last one I bought cost me $165 trade, I have however heard of people buying them for nearly $300!

They usually only have a problem going up (working against gravity) so your mechanic may be right. A frayed wire however should be able to be repaired.

mine was like that too - wouldn't go down or up the wire is actually a heap of smaller wires braided together - mine was down to the last single wire! i got a replacement one from darren (XR8 Dismantler), and did it myself. normally, you'd need to drill out the rivets that hold in the existing regulator, and replace these with bolts... but mine had been done before, so i didn't have an issue with this - a simple process of unbolting old one, removing, and replacing with new one! only had blood pissing out of one hand

AS said earlier, fairly common(almost like XD,XE door handles ).Not too hard even if originals, just have to drill out rivets and replace with 8mm bolts.
