nicco wrote: ah ha!! i've finally clicked onto what you meant by add another clip. i didnt even think to check there before.now the real question is, where can i get a clip like that? i am cool with running a power cable through to the switches, i just need to get a clip. Now you're thinking. Easiest way I could think of was to run the power wire through the hole, and solder it to one leg of the cct breaker - one clip is enough to hold it in - leave a little slack so you can pull the CB out, but otherwise you'll rarely have to replace it.
BTW, that grey plug you're holding in your hand is a connector for the rear ABS sensor (where fitted) - there's one on each side of the rear floorpan.

sweet as. i'll check out some more wreckers tomorrow and see if i can get the clip, if not, i'll solder it like you said.
ABS, that makes sense. cheers for that. and i finally worked out what the random black cable was for and what it does. actually, i dont really know what its for, but i know what it does!! it managed to fix my indicator, and allowed the central locking to do it things if a door was ajar. the other two fairmont ones i ended up just taping up. cheers for the help too |

f**k s**t C*** f**k s**t!!
spent all day and i've got two of the rivets out holding in the winders!! anyone know of anything that i should do to try and get the f**k out? i've blunted about 4 drill bits, i've tried drilling pilot holes, but the bits for the pilot holes got blunt and then snapped. and all good quality drill bits too, not supercheap auto crap. ive got a big burly drill, not some little wimpy pos. i'd be happy to file the pricks down by hand but the door skin is in the way and i cant get in properly. not f**k happy everything else is working |

The ones I did recently, all I did was use an angle grinder with a cutting disc, put a cross through the rivet (take care not to go into the door skin) - just like cutting a cake. Then used a pair of sidecutters to break off the 'cake bits'. The centre rivet then just falls out. Probably around 5 mins per rivet.

hrmm...
i have a few things to try. i put a thread up in O/T to help vent my anger before () and one of the guys said that the centre is high tensile steel. which explains why i drill it with normal metal drill bits. so i spose i have a few options now: find a drill bit able to handle high tensile steel grind it like you said (but i dont own a grinder, so would be expensive) use a dremel and grind it down (but that might not work and i dont own a dremel) might have to go shopping in the morning. car is going back together as we speak so that i can drive it in the morning |

Well if you only have drills to use - centre punch and drill a few holes in the soft parts and break them off with sidecutters. If you're careful, you won't butcher the door skin, and it still won't take long to do.

Have found best way to attack these SOB,s is to use a pin punch to punch out the centre of the rivet, then you can use your drill to drill out the rest of the rivet.

i wack them with a hammer and 9 times out of 10 the pin pops through...then i use a chisel and hammer.....problem is it can make a big mess of the door..
use a drill bit and drill the hole out bigger then they chisel off really easy or u can use a small angle grinder but in some spots you will cut the door panel

i showed them who was boss!! ha ha ha!!
ended up buying a dremel (okay, i bought a cheap no name brand knock off, but same thing) and used the cutting discs to cut a little cross hatch onto the heads of the rivets. From there a solid whack with a hammer knocked the centre out, and then i could drill the guts right out and use a screwdriver to pry the head right off. beautiful!! now just about to fit the new regs and should be sweet. the circuit breaker arrived from ford today, $17.75. Not too bad really. Out of all the wreckers in cairns there was only 1 not GLi in any of them, and someone had already pilfered the circuit breaker!! Pics will come tonight of any interesting bits |

^^^ ahh bugger! oh well.
but anyways, the whole lot is finished now, and it works a treat! I ended up soldering the power cable to the leg of the circuit breaker, i ended up making a small hole in the leg to make it easier to get the cable and circuit breaker to be one its nice being able to cruise around now and open/close the windows without having to stop on the side of the road Only thing left to sort out now is getting hold of the little screw caps to go in the armrests for each door. going to have fun scouring local wreckers for them, they dont even have a bloody circuit breaker!! Now, its time for a few photos And lastly, cheers to everyone who has helped me out through this, and a special thanks to Ray, been a big help throughout the whole process
